I'm only looking at one huge issue with making it a desktop application and that is the STAR and the video need to be in Sync with one another, as it is I have a kind of hard time keeping a system thats in the same room (no delay) in sync with the video.. add an internet lag and your asking for an ice cube not to melt in a bowl of hot soup.

Gary, you work with computers.. Any ideas on how to work on video delivery?

Where did you get that idea from?

I have DirecTV.

You asked a question about it in another thread (I beleive you asked Kyle if they carried his channel).
This be true, you asked about FiOS.. (Thunder)

General Discussion / KSMI Weather Channel STAR Software
« on: January 04, 2008, 05:06:07 PM »
As many people are aware, I and a team of broadcast technicians have been working to bring the KSMI Weather Channel, powered by The KSMI Weather Service.

We have been working on a STAR system which brings localized weather, highway, ski, and environmental data atop a national feed on a TV screen.

The system is currently avaiable only for TV's powered by set top boxes.

However, it seems that alot of viewers will tend to watch the channel via the web as the option for a set top box is not present or the funds to get one are not present.

I am thinking about taking the STAR software and re-writing it to work on a desktop computer as an executable (.exe) program.

The systems (and applications) would still be managed in the same manner, and would be activated, maintained, and controlled by KSMI Network Control.

The systems currently relies on a 24/7 - 2 way data feed between KSMI and the Unit, this data feed includes information regarding weather data, and what the unit should display; and when. Becuase there is no way of getting the video feed to the program (.exe) without going over the internet, or spending hundreds of dollars;  this data link is no longer existant. The internet would have to do both receive the video, and data which would need to meet certain speed expectations.

System Requirements:
  • Pentium 3 (or higher)
  • 256MB of RAM (or higher)
  • DSL, or cable modem. (High speed)
  • Screen Resolution of 1024 X 768 or Higher (Program would run at 800X600

Please vote above what you think.

If you have any questions, at all, please post them.

Just got this today at lunch. :D

My specs are a bit higher then that one though.

I noticed a (minor) error on that page:

Quote
The HP Pavilion dv2500 comes standard with genuine Microsoft® Windows® Vista Home Basic, but you can easily upgrade to genuine Windows® XP Professional if you need to connect to networks at school or work.

Are they trying to diss Vista or something? :P

Haha! Just like those Mac / PC commercials..

I was 100% against Vista before, but I've gotten used to it. I like it now :)
