Severe Weather / Re: Severe Weather Season 2011/Severe Wx thread

Its not too often that the hook echo is on the north side of a cell. Several cells tonight in SC have looked like this, odd. Can someone explain why they look like this?
It makes perfect sense that the hook is there if the storm is moving south-southeast. ;)  Don't always go by the classic textbook version which has the storm moving west to east with the hook on the southern end.  Storms can move in any direction based on wind shear, boundaries, and conditions aloft.
Ah. Thanks Patrick.

Does anyone have the intro to WCL?

Weather Center Live Opener 5/10/2011

This graphic looks much better than the old one. So what if its not blue? Blue is getting old anyway.

The designers might have a  purpose for them being like this that we don't know. Every designer has a mind of their own and their own opinions, and this might be one of their best or worse works. The WCL graphic isn't that bad really, we're just not use to it.  :dunno:

I like the new L3rd's!  Any one know if all shows will get new L3rd's and maybe new Intros??
Well WC has new L3rd's, a new Intro and a longer name. WC is now WCL (Weather Center Live)
Now I know why Chris and Crystal have been calling WC, WCL for a few weeks! On top of all that, we have a new TOR CON Intro!  The TOR CON maps and numbers looks the same.

Never thought I would quote my own post!! LOL
I just noticed it. WCL intro was white wasn't it?

I love those compared to the other ones. When I turned to TWC about 2min ago I thought it wasn't TWC when I saw them.

I don't understand why Mike Bettes is going on the tornado hunt if he is an anchor on YWT and contributes to WUWA. Even when he was part of VORTEX2 I didn't understand.
They'll prob get Jen Carfagno to cover for him 3-4 days of the week.
I know that. That's not my point. What I'm trying to say is, whey send someone who has a responsibility of a popular show in the studio. Send someone else (Carl Parker, Adam Berg, etc). Viewers want to see consistency. They would never send TODAY's Matt Lauer or Meredith Vieira on assignment for weeks or months at a time, would they? No.
I know that wasn't the point, but just saying she might fill-in which is relevant. I agree, someone without a show should go. Personally I'd like to see Stephanie go since she is more enthusiastic than Mike about the weather it seems. Carl should be there to help forbes. Adam would do a great job.

General Discussion / Re: Announcing the Weather Network Stream!
« on: May 08, 2011, 08:58:20 PM »
I don't think we ever gave you guys a website that this stream was based out of. We do have our own website, with our own forecasts (heavily based on NWS forecasts). We update it several times a day, and try to add new things to it about once a week. We'd love some feedback on it from you guys!

Here is the site:
http://theweathernetwork.weebly.com/index.html

We also just rolled out what we call "Precision Forecast", which is a one day outlook that is used to get accurate details into a map view. Its in the early phase and based on NWS forecasts with out interpretation. We'll see how well this system works in the coming days. Feedback should only be constructive to our efforts.
EDIT: Below is our forecast.

Well howcome they're not doing Vortex2 again?

Apparently it was only a two-year project (2009 and 2010). Don't know why they couldn't continue it though.
The chasing part was only a phase of vortex 2. They've got to take all of that data and make something of it now. They got a couple of tornadoes and plenty of data, it will take years to make something with it.

Bettes is on the way to Oklahoma City now. They start chasing Monday.

This doesn't quite count as a blooper, so i'll post it here. This afternoon when Jeff Morrow was showing the radar, his click got stuck and shot through his playlist of graphics and he had to pull the button off the remote.
