And the title on the top even says "7 DAY FORECAST." That's a fail. If they could at LEAST dedicate their :20 segment to the weekly planner only and then show their fluff everywhere else. And whatever happened to their region-by-region forecasts? And no, showing it in the five second forecast updates doesn't count.About the only time to get something like that is on First Outlook or the Early Weekend shows, that is the only place I've seen them cover weather like they used to. There is some news, but its all weather news in those shows from what I've seen.
It looks there has been some graphics changes recently - mapwise and some fonts. Its really aggrevating when they have those boxes in the way, I also don't like how the map overlays are gradient fills, that makes it hard to tell the temp when you get a blend of two colors that look like another color on the scale.
I still have a lot of trouble with the maps that are "contoured" temperature maps. You slap boxes on for cities during the Planner and it makes it worse .
I like the filled in isotherms - yellow for all 60s, tan for all 50s, royal blue for all 40s
They keep using that thinking it's just dandy, and I am like "what color is Cincinnati?" Orange? Red? Somehere in between?
They'll be focusing on more fluff and less content.
Well, that might just be their "wishful thinking" for these drought stricken areas. If you're all wondering what happened, aircraft reconnaissance found a closed low-level circulation and estimated surface wind speeds of 35 to 40 mph earlier this afternoon. However, NHC thought the thunderstorm activity was too weak on satellite to classify this system. That activity has increased over the past few hours, so NHC went straight to a tropical storm with the wind speeds from the aircraft data.POPs in SE Texas around Brownsville area are only max 50% in the next 3-5 Days. Too bad they wont get anything "much" out of this.
Arlene will likely be a strong tropical storm when it hits Mexico. Unfortunately, I'm not as optimistic about this storm giving much-needed rain to Texas based on the track I see with the storm staying well to the south.
That is too bad. TWC is being a little too optimistic, then. I got the information from them.

That video showed that the middle video wall panel wasn't turned on... I hope it didn't die...again....Running from Jim Cantore
TWC Behind the Scenes
Thanks! I love seeing behind the scenes. You can definitely tell they have to be on the ball when on live television.
Well, TWC really shouldn't always be the one you count on for weather, although they should cover it. They probably see best that people watch their local weather stations for localized severe coverage. There is a tornado warning just south of St. Louis but TWC is not pre empting the longform. I agree with the earlier posts, they have been very inconsistent with their coverage of severe weather. In a season like this where severe tstorms happen almost every night TWC has really demonstrated how unreliable it has become. The old TWC we loved isn't coming back, so the best option now is local TV or NOAA radio.
TWC doesn't want to "waste time" covering live weather anymore. It is cheaper and more convenient for them to repeat programming, rather than break into the programming and actually cover the severe weather. We might as well get used to it. TWC will only cover severe weather when they feel like it.
