General Weather Chat / Re: 2010-2011 Winter Storm Season

Well, they can't do anything if they don't see it coming. No one can really blame the Meteorologists, but I do hate when the forecast is off like that.
Too bad more folks don't understand that. :/

Anyway next week could be big. Joe Bastardi is going off as usual comparing next weeks potential storm to surviving a nuclear war. "the week of all weeks as far as winter maybe on the way. "
People need to also realize how complicated the weather is and how hard it is to make an accurate forecast. Sometimes people think the mets. just look at the clouds and say hmmm... I think it will rain.

Does an upper level low bring precip? If so do they always or just when the dew-point is high enough?

Today was a day that the forecasters blew it. They did not predict the sudden onset of sleet and freezing rain my area experienced today. It was not expected to cause travel difficulties, but numerous accidents occurred on the roads across the Birmingham Metro area. Schools closed early and traffic on the Interstates and other major highways in the area was extremely slow.
Do they even bother to check with other sources(ie NWS)? If not, they should.
Oh yeah. The NWS were among the ones who didn't expect it to get as serious as it did.

If there's going to be blame, it should be on the models also. In situations like this in the South when there's a threat of ice, they tend to perform poorly with temperatures sometimes too warm than what actually transpires. They also tend to be slow with development of the precip at least this Winter that's been the case. That band of rain/mix that showed up in AL/GA last night was not shown on any models to be there so that on it's own was a  clear indication that this was a problem from the start.

Now that the storm is ending, "Primed for Excitement" will most likely premiere tomorrow

I don't know...there is still a lot of aftermath to deal with. I think TWC should continue the extended coverage throughout the week and then start "Primed for Excitement" next week.
There is also a new storm forming around Texas and the Gulf that will bring snow/ice to some areas far south as this past storm did.

Yeah, more snow to an already iced-out Dallas. <_< Houston is also supposed to get some wintry precip too...not normal for them.
Also not normal is that Southern Texas has a Winter Storm Warning.

Do you know if temperatures will rise over the next month, or will they stay cold/frigid?

The past hour, and this hour of Weather Center has been in the old studio/satellite center/expert desk, presumably so whoever is anchoring the rest of the night is recording their segments now.
That or either, since there is so much going on right now, they are in there so everyone can communicate easily and get the data to us quicker.
The former is more probable.
In your opinion yes, but Chris and Crystal are also in the old studio now, and what would they need to tape? They probably want all live reports since they weather is bad with this storm.
