Local Forecast / Re: August Playlist 2013

Another thought occurred to me also, if the intent was to go vocal from the get go away from what they call quote, unquote, "elevator music" then why haven't they bothered to use vocal tracks from Smooth Jazz/Soft Rock/New Age musicians they used a lot in the past and make all the masses happy?
I thought the same too. And I thought they had to stop smooth jazz because of budget problems in the music department as gt1RacerlHDl posted back in June. https://twctodayforums.com/forums/local-forecast/general-lf-discussion/4830/ Also back in 2009 when jazz was cut down when NBC bought TWC and something was said about getting pre built top 40 playlists from hit radio stations or something like that? Obviously would be a lot cheaper I heard? If that's true it's probably over the obsessive long form being added and probably the relaunch that is "supposed" to happen later this year is running them dry in cash? Who Knows?  :dunno:. So the Vocals might only be temporary because budgets were cut significantly? Although how were they able to go all instrumental back in late May of this year because they might have to licence those songs. I tried emailing Melissa about this but "of course" no response. Maybe they were told not to respond because the production department didn't want to make any changes until the relaunch. So I think they know what we like, but can't afford to do it at this time? I am hoping for the best later this year. I wouldn't care if they put vocals back on Wake up with Al only.

For the Trenton Area. Currently it is 52 F and clear and it's expected to be 76 F and Partly Cloudy. And it's expected to warm up to the low 90s in the next two days.

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Humberto
« on: September 09, 2013, 03:27:30 AM »
It sounds like the hurricane specialists on TWC want a hurricane before the 11th. Maybe or Maybe not? But last week I saw Al and Stephanie bet $20 if we did not get a hurricane before the week of the 11th. It's also surprising that there's so much shear and dry air in the Atlantic even though we are not in an El Nino pattern. Probably a once in every one or two decades event.

I think TWC should do so. I had no idea about such event until I found out about the orange logo. I'm sure it will raise awareness a little more if TWC did so, as well as other networks.

You've never seen the twice-a-year green logo for Green is Universal week?
I have. I was just saying they should do more logo color changes for more causes. However it might be a pain constantly sending updates to the Intellistar's.

i think if we get a hurricane or major weather event to warnant "Red Mode" (formerly Storm Alert mode), they should have the Logo go red as well.
That's not a bad idea. I think TWC should do that for Winter Storm's this winter and Hurricane's next year. By the way did anyone hear if TWC is naming winter storms this winter?  :dunno:

now that TWC has used the Orange Logo, do you think they should try different colors for Holidays, Seasons, other charities and causes?

General Discussion / Re: NEW "Network Weather Channel" to launch nationwide
« on: September 06, 2013, 01:49:57 AM »
I wonder if they will incorporate their version of Local on the 8s. Maybe they will build new Units for delivering Local Forecasts to a certain area like Intellistar. I really hope they do as well as put on Smooth Jazz during their forecasts. I really hope they pick that up and not repeat the same songs as TWC has on now.

Well good for her. It's always nice to have family members close by. Although I don't watch Weather Center Live all
the time i'm really going to miss her. She was a great OCM and wish her the best!  I'll be sure to DVR Weather Center Live Tonight

I just heard "Good" by Better than Ezra at 9:48 AM. Was this on the August playlist or are they finally transitioning?

Yes. It got too hot in my old school especially during spring 2012.

Are you ready if a Hurricane or Tropical Storm were to strike your location sometime in the next couple of weeks?

TWC Hires Rentrak’s TV Essentials to follow Audience Sentiment

For all of you are who too lazy to click the link, the article reads
The station will use Rentrak’s TV Essentials to provide TV ratings and audience measurement knowledge at a national and local level as it looks to grow and expand its content offerings.

Senior vice president, strategic research & consumer insights, at The Weather Company Indira Venkat said: “We are exited about this partnership and looking ahead to a deeper understanding of the impact of The Weather Channel’s programming and marketing strategies.”

So does this mean they will finally understand that they've been heading in the wrong direction? Hopefully they'll see that and fix a few things. Like Long Form hours or maybe LOT8s?

Everything Else TWC / Re: Floor directors
« on: August 17, 2013, 07:14:59 AM »
Probably because it's a much bigger space. Also maybe because TWC didn't have the money to spend on countdown systems thus needing floor directors to cue the OCM's. Have you noticed in the old studio when they would go to a wide studio view something on the top of the teleprompter had two lights and when they got to the middle they faded to black? Just my thoughts.

Was reading Weather Channel reviews and happen to come across this?
Quote
The company used to be a fantastic place to work. But since the new CEO came on board (the 3rd CEO in 5 years) it's been downright awful. He is a multimillionaire who owns his own jet and also happens to be formerly with Bain Capital, the company that owns 1/3 of the company and primarily runs things. His job is plain and simple: sell the company as fast as possible now that Bain and the other owners have had it for over 5 years after buying at the peak of the market for an overpriced $3 billion. The CEO didn't even bother to move to the headquarters? He still lives in Boston, where the company has no offices.
This is posted by an anonymous VP who currently works at TWC. Posted on March 22 of this year. Link Here hwww.indeed.com/cmp/The-Weather-Channel/reviews the sixth review down. It also talks about that the ratings even with long form are in the dumps. Bain Capital Runs Things? I thought it was that nasty Rainbow Colored Peacock. If The Weather Channel is going for sale it better be bought by the NWS.   :P
