Apparently the video of the new LOT8s that Martin posted a few pages back is not longer available. So for those of you who haven't made it to the "WeatherAllTheTime" page/forum to see the new LOT8s preview, here is another upload of it (thanks to Eric for pointing out that it was on YT again):

Those are pretty simple icons. Know the horse has been beaten to death relentlessly in the past, but the XL icons were the perfect blend of simplicity and attractiveness. But as long as the message gets across, that's all most viewers care about. I wonder how the music will be affected by the changes?

I agree that the old XL icons showed more detail. I don't mind the icons that the IntelliStar/IntelliStar 2 currently use; I just think the XL ones looked a lot better. I also miss those 4000-style icons that TWC had back in the '90s whenever they would show their regional forecasts on their national segments. Ironically, the new weather.com icons kind of remind me of the graphics that Microsoft uses in their commercials as well Windows 8.  :o  I did some searching on their server, and it seems like they only have 47 icons (some of them are even duplicates of the same icons).

it wouldnt matter anyways cuz legacy STARs are gonna soon be a thing of the past

I know I will certainly miss the XL after they change everything next month. TWC & my local forecast just won't be the same. I've been uploading the older XL video clips that I have to my Youtube channel. I had forgot about some of the good songs they used to play before they decided to go all mainstream on us.
Taking you back to 2010 here's 2 clips featuring songs that I'm sure we would all appreciate hearing during local forecasts..

There was word back in July that all of the existing legacy STAR units will soon be replaced with something new for the cable headends that still use the older STARs:

https://twctodayforums.com/forums/programming/new-graphics-coming-to-twc/msg184191/#msg184191

I had forgotten about that.  I wonder who will have to pay for this - the individual cable companies or TWC?  Will they be upgraded to the same technology as everyone else, or will there be another "budget model" that isn't quite as good?  And what will "not quite as good" be, exactly?  So many questions... :hmm:

Sent a email to Mediacom's Area Director of Operations asking if they were getting things in order for the new local on the 8s format, he sent back a quick reply: "The paperwork has been submitted to get the new units from Weather Channel, so we will be able to continue to provide local weather information."

I think a lot of Mediacom headends are still using the XL, so they will be having to replace a few old STARs.

The video preview of the new format can be found at weather.com/weatherallthetime
It makes you fill out a survey first, then takes you to a forum and you'll have to register.

Here are some snapshots of the new look:

Here's another question for anyone who can answer I have about the XLv2 (2001-2004)

On the text forecast (36 hr. forecast), what was the max amount of lines shown per daypart screen before the remainder carries over to another screen? Is it 6 or 7? I'm guessing 6, but I could be wrong. :dunno:

Pretty sure it's 6. 7 lines would be overlapping part of the LDL

I just heard "Good" by Better than Ezra at 9:48 AM. Was this on the August playlist or are they finally transitioning?

I'm pretty sure that that song was already on the list

TWC is starting to air new promos about the OCM's.
Noticed this one for Maria LaRosa.
Maria LaRosa TWC Promo 2013

Just a thought... Instead of them wasting time airing a OCM promo, they should have taken that 30 seconds and added it back into the local forecast time..

(yeah, like that'll ever really happen)

I really like Event Horizon.
I actually just chatted with Claudio Fiore on Facebook. He seemed pretty ecstatic when I told him "Event Horizon" was being used during weather forecasts on a national channel in the US. https://www.facebook.com/claudiofiore.edm/posts/600942339949947

Those The Bunny the Bear songs sound way to heavy metal rock and don't fit the Local Forecasts.
At least they didn't use the vocal version of those TBTB songs, lol. :bleh:  I'd much rather here those instrumental songs than Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Crowded Houses' "Weather With You" and whatever other vocal songs they've played in the past.
Sometimes I wonder if we're just listening to a "favorite pop/rock playlist" of the person in the music dept, and then they just throw in the occasional instrumental song for the hell of it.

I used "Neon Stars" on my June playlist last year, and the cut is almost identical! :o Perfect summer song, skip to 6:30
I thought I had heard it on one of your test lists before!
