General Discussion / Re: The Debt Ceiling Deadline
« on: July 31, 2011, 07:50:00 PM »
I agree with Martin--the media is just trying to get attention by scaring people. The interest rates may go up and some jobs lost, but it's not going to be another Great Depression. We should've heeded George Washington's advice to not have political parties.

I'm not a huge fan of discussing politics because someone is going to inevitably get upset. I don't think this is a bad idea of discussion, though, just as long as it's moderated and we respect other people's thoughts.

Somehow, I think civilization will continue.

Local Forecast / Re: Has the L-bar been discontinued?
« on: July 31, 2011, 07:45:33 PM »
I thought I saw it this evening--if you mean LDL, that is. I'm that's not right, then I don't know what an "L bar" is.

Are you saying TWC is headed to only have local forecasts and that joke of a weather update? I just can't believe that. Maybe it seems that way, but I just don't see that happening.

Programming and Graphics / Re: If Al Roker wasn't enough...
« on: July 30, 2011, 05:34:03 PM »
Meh, I sort of saw it coming, too. My question is why is TWC airing shows like that? Do they get high ratings, or is it because they can't afford to do as much live weather coverage? Everyone I talk to about TWC watches for the weather, not shows about a tornado that happened 50 years ago. I don't watch TWC constantly anymore, so this doesn't really affect me that much.

Local Forecast / Re: IntelliStar Changes

I still see the Getaway Forecast on the shorter LF's after a show like Storm Stories.

I would like the 8-city observations if the cities weren't so close to each other in distance. In my case, they used to have Alexandria (100 miles north) and Lake Charles (80 miles or so west), but instead there are cities like Opelousas (20 miles north) and Crowley (20 miles west). I would miss the 8-city list, but I could live without it. My guess is that that would be the next thing to lose even more priority after the Getaway.

I don't know what to say about that. It's probably just a glitch and it should come back. If not, maybe it didn't get the update, but it's not a huge loss. I'm not the person to ask because I'm a noob, apparently.

I think the 8-city observations are useless on the IS since all the cities are only 30 miles or so less from each other. Like the weather will be drastically different on a regular basis from that distance. In that respect, I just think it's redundant to have that at all when there is the map. I do like seeing the wind speeds, though.

Happy 14th birthday. :) I remember 14 being a pleasant year for me, and I hope it is one for you too.

TWC Fan Art / Re: Tyler's HD Concepts

Wow, very nice! That's probably the best IS2 graphic I'll see custom made.

Go work for TWC as a graphic designer.   :P

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Don

Ha-ha, that's funny but very appropriate. I was surprised, too.

Well, my weatherman also admitted that his prediction was wrong. He too thought Don would make it to a mininal hurricane. Patrick had this one right. You might need to be Knabb's replacement in ten years.  :P

Also, I learned that if I ever get into weather, I am not going to make a prediction like the one my weatherman made. I'm just going to report the facts.

Don, you were an epic fail to Texas's drought-relief hopes.

Well, I'm just going with what my local weatherman is saying. He really seems to think the models are underestimating its strength. Well, I'm no meteorologist (yet, hopefully), but I thought it looked decent. Only time will tell.

And you make a good point, Patrick.

Looks like the Houston IS and Galveston IS (IS2 if they have it) will get some work with the Local and Regional Radars + Radar/Satellite, i wish i was out there to catch Don on it.

Why is that? I don't remember that change, but I'm a noob, so what do I know?

It's looking pretty good now, and my favorite and very reliable Jay Grymes thinks it will make it to a minimak hurricane before landfall.

Which topic to choose? Lol.

As Mike said, Texas is in dire need of this rain. And I got to give credit to TWC on this one--they beat the Baton Rouge news at 4 because at 4:05 , meteorologist Pat Shingleton said it was only a depression.

I wish it would come a bit closer to Cajun Country so I could feel some wind from this one, but I would rather Texas have the rain in the long run. The season sure is pretty active though; even last year, the "D" storm Danielle formed late August 2010, and it's still only July. There is a ways to go, for sure.

I am very sick of hearing every change blamed on NBC. It's gotten very old, everyone.

I didn't mean my post to be interpreted that way, and  I didn't mean to label NBC for the change. To be honest, I don't even remember why I put that in my post. That's another point in my life when I really just needed to shut up and keep my mouth closed because I often say the wrong thing at the wrong time. This also goes for my real life out of the forums, and it bit me in the :censored: again. Hopefully this will end the controversy. My apologies.

Also, I don't give a  :censored: about the change anymore. It's just text on the bottom of a screen! It doesn't impact any part of my life whatsoever at this point. It's very trivial and petty (hardly even a change at all...big change all right), and I don't think anyone should complain about it anymore. It's so old.

I wouldn't bet my XL on that...lol.

I will admit it's pretty unnecessary. As said before, it would be much better to be short and sweet--"Additional forecast at weather.com." But NBC felt it was necessary, and we'll just have to deal it.

Ew, gross.

Well, that was my first reaction, but you start to get used to it. I'm surprised TWC is promoting their website even further, despite how popular it already is.

If there is another change, I hope it's a change to these stale graphics. I heard that the graphics will be getting updated eventually.

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: New Intellistar HD Update
« on: July 26, 2011, 08:39:45 AM »
Those screens, and others, are currently not part of any playlist. They must have played because another product was unavailable (I heard there was a radar outage today, so that might be why you saw them).

Yep, the STAR played an extra long Now screen and then jumped right to these screens. I haven't seen them since, so I'm pretty glad I happened to catch them.
