They've been calling each other that for the last few years, though. Stephanie called herself Mike's work wife in 2010.

Stephanie is not married, right? Actually, I'm not sure if either of them are married.

Does the average viewer actually watch Coast Guard Alaska?

The average viewer probably doesn't care much about the music change, but if that were the case, then the need to remove jazz doesn't make sense unless it's clearly TWC's idea to do it without viewer input. If the music change was because jazz ratings were falling, then that wouldn't make much sense because the average viewer watches for weather, not music.

Also, you'd think that TWC would maybe check out what some of their viewers are saying about anything TWC. Is this the only major forum pertaining to TWC? If so, then I'm surprised that they're not even curious to see what people think about their current decisions. This is a good source of feedback. I don't know what their methods are.

For now, I'm generally pleased with the LF. I'm not sure how much longer these full screen local forecasts will be around, but at least that's been a constant for the past 20 or so years

That's too bad. Music like that is more suitable for getting weather information. I don't think songs by ADELE will get more people to watch because the average viewer does not watch TWC for that reason.

Only 6 months ago we heard music by Euge Groove!

Has the TWC music management committee changed? I don't even know who's in charge, but I have to wonder. This is a pretty big shift in music genres for national television. People do notice.

Absolutely beautiful, Tavores.

I really want to continue hearing songs from Ryan Farish. "Oasis," "Breakthrough," and also music from The Weather Channel's beach music would be nice, too.

I would also like to hear "Take Me Away" by Bickley Rivera, since TWC now likes vocals. That song was played in August 2010.

There was actually a news segment on my local station regarding this.

May the fourth be with all of you during the five hours we have left.

Good topic, Brian! Nice to hear from you.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

For the 30-year celebration, Blake Shelton said in a little clip that everyone hates the elevator music on the local forecasts. It looks like TWC took him seriously.  :P

Is there even a topic for the 30 year celebration? I could not find one.

Oh, God. It's hard to believe Jay Soto's "The Groove Merchant" played only one year ago.

I don't despise the songs they play, but I hear Adele on the radio enough. Fact is fact--TWC is not a source of jazz, and I will have to look elsewhere.

It's good that some of you guys are taking TWC's new music selections well. In the past, their introduction to new genres weas conservative with only instrumentals being chosen. Now, however, they're going all out and using vocals, and I don't predict smooth jazz back this time. It seems as though most of us have come to peace with that, though.

I hope new music is chosen for May. Also, please throw "New Divide" out! It's not terrible, but it's been playing since January.

Also, since it's not necessarily a jazz song, if TWC selected Ryan Farish's "Oasis," then I would instantly love any new playlist, no matter how many vocal, metal, or rock music they select.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: All the OCMs acting the same?
« on: April 21, 2012, 01:38:21 PM »
I don't think Stephanie is annoying at all. I enjoy her enthusiasm, but then again, everyone holds different opinions.

A big reason that has to do with the OCMs acting the same is less air time. Much more of TWC's coverage is pre-recorded footage of weather news, and actual weather segments appear to be cut shorter because of this.

Ray Stagich does a good job at distinguishing himself from other OCMs. I've always thought that way about him.

Someone on here mentioned that the coastal region should still get the regional map at either :28 or :58, but even with no extra screens like Weather Bulletin or Metro Radar, I still don't see my regional map EVER. The return of the daypart forecast shoved it out.

I miss the 4x4 screen, too. It's very nostalgic, and I liked seeing the wind speeds. I'm only one person, however.

I didn't think that the 2010 and 2011 playlists were bad at all. In fact, 2011 was a very jazzy playlist. 2012 has been depressing. At some point, if someone can ever find out, I would like to know the reasoning behind the removal of the monthly playlists. It's been TWC's thing almost since they first began the network, and I too see no reason to stop it. And for all the people who say, "Boohoo, it's just music--quit complaining!" are ignorant because music is appealing to everyone.

TWC is making a huge unnecessary mess over the music. Heck, one of us could pick out at least 50 good songs right off the bat. It's not hard to do, and a network as big as TWC should have plenty of resources to do it.

Programming and Graphics / Re: TWC Weekday Schedule Changes 3/26
« on: March 26, 2012, 09:59:56 PM »
I wonder whose ridiculous idea was to add more long-form programming to weekdays
The viewers.

I find that strange. During recent college visits and further inquiring about meteorology majors, I've had the fortune to talk with a wide span of people in regards to TWC--NOAA employment, TV meteorologists on the local news, and several meteorology professors at both Oklahoma and Mississippi State universities, and when asked about TWC, not one of them thought TWC's changes to entertainment for a younger audience were a good idea. They're fans of weather, not shows about the weather, and I could not agree more myself. I am aware that this opinion is often expressed around here, but I share the same stance as the qualified meteorology professionals I have talked to. I, too, don't think this is what most viewers want, and I think this is going to bite TWC in the butt, especially since weather coverage is even scanter after the morning hours with this new lineup. Sorry, this isn't meant to be intended as a hateful rant; moreover, it's my only way of expressing my opinion that more time for shows like Ice Pilots isn't what the viewers want. I think it's TWC's way of saving money, which is perfectly understandable.
