Those gay references were purely a joke.
Yah, I got that. :P

If you don't laugh at some point during these videos, something is wrong with you. This is TWC at its funniest.
...or it just isn't your kind of humor. I'm into silly/dopey/absurd humor myself. Awkward/nice guy humor rarely makes me laugh. And maybe it's just me, but some of those borderline gay references were a little creepy.

Hurricane Central / Re: Do you like the new hurricane sub forum?
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:30:49 AM »
I think it's kind of annoying. I look at new replies and see a dozen threads about hurricanes. Some, of which, haven't even developed sometimes! But I don't want to spoil anyone's fun. So if others like it...

You're kidding, right? There's tons of stuff here about severe weather. Forum categories, subforums, and threads.

Both Paul and Jim are the only tall guys on TWC. I know Paul is 6 foot 5. I'm not sure about Jim.

As for me, nope. I am short. I'm 5'4 (though I'm pretty sure I grew an inch...)
He was talking about Jim being short, not tall. And I think he was asking about the other OCMs.

Can anyone name the LF tune below from Jan 1988? It didn't appear on playlists of the time that I know of. A lot of songs didn't back then. Thanks in advance.
That's "Sundown" by Herb Alpert. I have a video of it posted in 1987.

this whole apple obsession of yours needs to end, not everyone here is obsessed with it.
At the very least, don't mention it in every thread. :P

Wow, they're actually talking about the whys of weather! Haven't seen that in years. The female anchor is terrible, though. And are the iPad and table really necessary? Would viewers think any less of them if they read the questions off a much cheaper cue-card?

OCMs & Personalities / Kristina Abernathy and Weathertainment
« on: September 08, 2010, 01:22:48 PM »
My friend (and fellow board member) Mike C. shared this with me today. I thought it was interesting enough to share with you all.

Someone posted a question on answers.com, asking what happened to Kristina Abernathy. While the author is probably just a fan and doesn't know the true answer, I thought his/her comments about Kristina (as well as other OCMs and NBC's version of TWC were spot on). I was never really a fan of Kristina (she was a little to rigid for my tastes), but I agree that she was always professional. Both in appearance and in how she did her job.

Since I haven't watched the channel (for more than a few minutes) in years, I am not familiar with any of the antics mentioned (except for the "Storm Master G" thing), but I find them appalling. When I saw the "Storm Master G" thing, I thought "you have got to be kidding me!" I don't know the circumstances surrounding that ad, but Dr. Forbes does not seem like the kind of guy who lower himself to that level. If I was him, I would have said "no, I'm not doing that" and walked out.

Finally...although I've never really thought about it, Jim Cantore does seem to have changed over the years. I'm sure he's still a great guy, but he seems to have a bit of an ego these days that's a bit off-putting.

I found the song! I was a year off, the weather channel played it in April 2000. It's Jessica by the Allman Brothers Band.
You were also off with the genre. ABB is rock, not jazz. Glad you found the song, though. :)

Not necessarily with pricing but support and feature wise HostGo has fallen behind.
Having suffered through a lot of bad hosts, I'd say HostGo is one of the better ones. True, they're not perfect. No host is. Things happen. Some of it you can avoid, some you can't. It's the overall picture that matters to me. And overall, I have been very pleased with them.

As far as prices and features go, they are definitely the best I've seen. Sure you can get a gazillion MBs of space and bandwidth, and every feature you can think of from Fast Eddy's Hosting for $1 a month....but you're gonna "pay" for it sooner or later. I personally would rather shell out a few bucks more for a reliable host than get the cheapest possible plan I can find.

I don't know if you've had the problems I've had regarding video and audio downloads, but I found out something rather interesting this week. A few months ago, I downgraded my plan to the cheapest one ($6.95/mo). When I got this month's invoice, I noticed I was being billed at my old rate ($14.95). Naturally, I asked HostGo what the deal was. They informed me that some of my PHP scripts were using too many resources, so they had to change me back. I then asked if they could tell me what script(s) were resource hogs.

I was less than surprised to find out that two of them were the ones that people were complaining about (the flash player and audio clip downloader). So I converted all the video and audio links to direct download links. Problem solved (so far)!

Weird. I don't see anything on weather.com (other than the news about Earl).
