TWC Classics News / Re: New content management system
« on: January 14, 2011, 03:48:59 PM »
Now that I've rolled the entire site over to the new CMS, I'm curious if any of you are running into any problems. Specifically, are you having any trouble finding what you need? Whether it's new content or stuff you refer back to every now and then. So far I've received no complaints, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I've brought back some old content that a visitor asked for. If there's anything you'd like back that I took down, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks! :D

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Updates and link
« on: January 14, 2011, 03:30:12 PM »
Two suggestions for the site, if I may...

Link the top banner image in the forums to the TWCT and TWCC websites. "Home" links to the main page of the forums, which makes sense. But it would be nice to have a link to the main websites.

Create an updates page for the site. Although I'm (obviously) more interested in older TWC content, I'm also curious about new content added to this site. However, I don't see anywhere you can find this out (other than on the front page - for a while).

Thoughts?

Everything Else TWC / Re: What would you do to improve TWC?
« on: January 14, 2011, 11:11:09 AM »
As Donald Duck would say, "Okay. You asked for it! Hahaha."

1 - Get rid of any feature that isn't directly related to weather.
2 - Replace all current long-form programming with shows about weather, lead by people in the weather business.
3 - Actually explain what's happening and why.
4 - Don't use new technology unless it's beneficial to the viewer. (And if you do use it, make sure the viewer can actually see it.)
5 - Use the playlist longer than a month or two.
6 - Add some real variety to the playlists (ie. stop using the same songs/artists, stop playing rock and vocal music).
7 - Don't play an indie artist unless their music is available online somewhere.
8 - Severe weather coverage always trumps recorded programming.
9 - Make graphics more readable (ie. increase font sizes, remove layers that hide or blur info below them).
10 - Hire/retain people with experience, not perceived sex appeal.
11 - Fire people that aren't professional (ie. Stephanie, Al)
12 - Get rid of all the crap on the screen (a small lower-third is more than enough).
13 - Stop hyping the weather.
14 - Stop taking on political causes (ie. global warming).
15 - Make the non-map graphics more interesting (ie. stop using cloud backgrounds).

BTW, what the heck is the "Digital Media Center" and "Tap That App?"

Regardless, I still don't feel that any public school or public school entity should tell you how to do your hair.
As far as just being in school goes, okay, I can see that. But activities is another story because that's something you choose to be a part of. I mean, if we're to say that it's not fair to ask someone to have a decent haircut on a sports team, then I guess it's also not fair to allow only smart people in honors classes and groups.

I can't believe the parents are actually filing a lawsuit for "discrimination" against their son. This case will surely fail.
I wouldn't be surprised if they won. Courts today are terrible. They could care less about law or the Constitution.

Oh yah. No one has a "right" to an education. Thanks for reminder, Tyler. :P

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This whole "rights" and "discrimination" stuff has gotten way out of hand. Contrary to what anyone will tell you, you do not have a right to...

A house
A car
A marriage license
All the benefits of being an American, without legally being one, just b/c you "work hard" and/or are "trying to raise a family"
A healthcare plan that covers everything
A job
A "decent" wage
To be part of any group you want
To have rules, laws, etc not apply to you b/c you think they're "unfair"
To never be offended by anyone or anything

And anything else not mentioned in the Constitution or Bill of Rights. :)

Much to my surprise, I was able to get the music section done rather quickly. Now I plan to go through each playlist, making sure that each official one is accurate, and that each yearly "other songs" list doesn't contain duplicates.

Thanks for your patience during this transition!

The video section just went live. All that's left is music, which may take awhile, since it's pretty data intensive.

I don't "remember" it, since it was way before my time, but I do have it on tape. And I believe you do too. Doesn't sound Asian to me.

Well I'm certainly glad they fired all those old-timers a while back. I mean, who wants to get their forecast from an expert they know and trust. Let's fire all the experts and hire nobody's off the street.

Oh! Yes, TWC used "Greensleeves" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." Can't remember the exact years, but I wanna say late 80s.
