Everything Else Classic TWC / Re: Debut of TWC
« on: March 21, 2013, 10:40:31 AM »
Landmark is a top notched company and continues to operate a fine media empire from my hometown. Frank Batton was a genius in building both the company and TWC.
I couldn't agree more.

Notice what was said about the music. It was their intent to keep it upbeat, varied, current and bright. One might argue that TWC is simply returning to this way of thinking.
I disagree. Current, yes. Varied, no. Bright and upbeat, not always.

"The General" ads are usually stupid, but this one is the worst. In fact, it's the dumbest commercial I've seen in a long time!

I didnt want to post a whole topic for this, but It has been exactly ten years since I stumbled accidentally onto TWC Classics, when it was called "Matt's Guide To The Weather Channel" on 3/10/2003 at night
I'm still amazed you remember the date. I couldn't tell you the date I discovered a major site, let alone a fan site. I appreciate your loyalty. :D

Zabzibar Breeze was used in 1987. I don't recognized Lightning River.

Awesome! I was sad to hear of Jim's firing around Christmas, so this is great news!
Jim's firing??!! :ninja:  :o :(  Sorry to double post, BTW.

Don't worry, I wasn't talking about Cantore. :) Jim Flowers was the Chief Meteorologist at WOWT for many years. Before that he worked for many years at KETV (our ABC affiliate). So he was one of my local TV forecasters since I was a kid. He was fired at the end of last year under mysterious circumstances.

Hmm...I never noticed that.

OCMs / Re: Meteorologist PSAs

To quote Jeanetta in that PSA, the cheese one is "hard to beat." Others I recall are Marc Mancuso getting ready for a superbowl party, Declan and Bonnie painting their house, Jim taking care of his lawn, and Bonnie talking about getting through the day with naps, exercise, a good breakfast, etc. I should create a page with the ones I have on TWCC.

I believe the local update and narration-less flavors gradually replaced the narrated ones in 1995. So that makes sense. I do remember the border in the lower-thirds going from white to dark blue. It happened about the same time the TCF background changed from a gradient of blues to a solid dark blue. I didn't care for either change. :)

Everything Else Classic TWC / Re: Favorite blooper era?
« on: February 20, 2013, 10:27:28 AM »
I think 1996-1997 is about right. I seem to remember a lot of STAR issues, as well as broadcasting issues (mainly after they moved).

While it's not a commercial, this show annoyed me so much as a child. I swear the creators are on some kind of drug.
I think the creators of most kids shows are on drugs.

General Weather Chat / Re: What's the weather in your area?
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:29:25 PM »
22 and clear right now, but a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon. The NWS says at least 6 inches of snow. :o

I don't know why have the song on my HD but was "Colors" by Steven Saltzman ever used on TWC?
Yes, in 1998.

TWC Classics News / Re: TWC Classics relaunch
« on: January 30, 2013, 03:36:25 PM »
I hope that nothing changes as far as the local forecasts go, anytime I am depressed I can come here and watch those old LF and it always brings a smile to my face.  Since LF will never be as good as they were in the late 80s and early 90s, I hope that this site keeps them so I can keep coming back.
Local forecast videos make the majority of the content on my site. So I can assure you that they're not going anywhere.
