Wow, this is surprising. I'm a long-time Dish customer and knew nothing about this. Just tuned to 214 and they've already taken TWC off the air. Oh wait, they just moved it to 213. TWC is talking about the oil spill now. Good. When I think about oil spill news, I think of TWC.

I haven't really watched the channel since being forced to leave cable for satellite several years ago, so I can't say I'm going to miss it. And I'm certainly not going to use this as an excuse to change providers.

So I'm in a bit of a dilemma now. I want to stream my Weatherscan XL Emulator and host my videos to a server so badly, but my parents won't open the ports on our router because they say my neighbor who has a Bachelor's in computer science told them that port fowarding is very dangerous. Not that I believe it, but they say that hackers can get into the router, control the host computer, and take their bank account info. :hmm:
Your neighbor is right. Opening common ports on your router is very risky, unless you know what you're doing. In fact, I'm surprised that your ISP would allow such a thing (unless you have a business account or something). :nono:

Rainbow Seeker cam out in 1977. I remember it played in June 2008. I haven't heard The Gift, though. Maybe if I search the Internet for it and listen to it (if I can find it), I might recognize it.
Rainbow Seeker was also used in 1988, 1989, and 2000. The Gift was used in 1994, and November 2000.

I love the image section of the site. Looking at the pictures of my tour to TWC that I contributed, the title cards of the segments, e.g. Tropical Update, A Look Ahead, Cold Weather Alert, etc., and the backdrops of the different cities on the Business Travel Forecast. You won't get rid of any of that, will you?
No, but I might cycle through some of it.

So, upon coming back from class, I get news that the NWS bans twitter? ... I'm not really liking the idea, to be honest. When some people are under a severe weather watch or warning, they need a faster way to get in the know. And Twitter makes it simpler (I sound like an ad here. >_>). There are times that they dont have the time to go to the actual NWS site and look at the advisories.
Ever heard of a TV? :P

Not sure if you saw my other post, but could you please keep the 2005-2010 message board? I rely on this a lot for past TWC events and videos.
Is there a way you can archive what you need? I see no reason to leave it up indefinitely, but will leave it up for a while.

Will the rest of the content after the launch be donated to twctoday?
No. That's why it says get what you need now. :)

For some reason, after searching through files for about 5 minutes or so, IE automatically closes out of the site and gives an error message saying something like "This webpage was closed due to the site trying to run a malicious software add-on " or something like that.

Does anyone else get this? :dunno: I would still like to browse through all the archives on the site, but maybe TWC is preventing us from doing so.
Never had that error, but I do occasionally get a memory error. Rather annoying. Never get it with any other program.

A few years ago, someone posted a link to a hidden part of weather.com. It had lots of images and other files. I think the first part of the address was xoap.weather.com. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Everything Else TWC / Re: Long Form Question?
« on: May 10, 2010, 03:24:13 PM »
Long-form programming is one of the many things that destroyed TWC. At least TWC whose main goal was reporting and explaining the weather. Of course, TWC isn't alone in this. Almost every cable network has moved away from its initial idea into something unrecognizable to a loyal or former fan. Nick shared with me an interesting article about what programming execs think about all this. The interesting part is that most seemed loyal to what made the network a brand name. Well, if that's the case, they why the rapid change? Why not just expand and update the original brand? For example, TWC made some great documentaries in the late 80s to mid 90s. Why not do an updated version of that, instead of making shows that are nothing more than "Extreme Makeover" for weather fans?
