Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC Poll
« on: June 12, 2010, 03:24:20 PM »
I gave it a "1" because I haven't really watched since 2005 or so. My reasons why...

Lack of weather programming

Lack of in-depth coverage (ie. jet stream, the map w/the isobars, etc).

Firing good OCMs and keeping dull ones like Alexandra Steele and Al Roker.

Too many programs that have nothing to do weather (movies and shows).

Lack of music variety during local forecast. I love Ryan Farish, but I think we can try other artists. And by other artists, I don't mean Joe Blow who made a CD in his basement.

Firing artists in favor of graphic/video experts.

Making needless changes and additions to the newer STARs.

Talking about politics (ie. climate change).

Local Forecast / Name that tune (1991)

A fan sent me this clip. I thought I knew every song used in '91, but apparently not. This one has me stumped!

 Register? I thought you just needed a Live/Windows ID account? Sorta like Google Docs
Yah, unless I missed something, you need an account to even see what it does.

Lets try to appreciate some of the good things about TWC rather than continuously look at the bad things.
Really? Like what?

I agree with Martin and Jesse. The topic has been beaten to death. Of course, TWC has lost its way. It did so YEARS ago. The days of being able to rely on TWC to keep you safe during bad weather are long gone. If you still use it during a tornado or a hurricane, you're screwed.

Compared to Cox, Dish's is pretty plain. Just blue boxes for the shows and white boxes for the channel numbers. As Jonathan said, the only customization option is choosing whether or not to "preview" the channel you're currently watching. I don't think I've ever seen an IPG with ads in it.

TWC Today News / Re: Site News

Although I'm late to the party (up until now, I couldn't reply to this thread for some odd reason), I'd like to add myself to those praising the Memorial Day logo. The circle and ampersand parts are really cool. :D

OCMs / Re: Dianne Barone

Using the timeline that Layne made me years ago, 1990-1991 sounds about right. I haven't been able to find any info about her.

A new Weatherscan feed is expected to be launched in 2010 for Dish Network subscribers, to replace The Weather Cast service that had been founded as a replacement for The Weather Channel as a result of a carriage dispute.
That makes no sense. Why not just add WeatherScan to the lineup? :dunno:

I just looked at the guide and it now lists the old Weather Cast channel as TWC2. Maybe they're going to do our idea of a second channel for people that are only interested in weather.

Gee, Jesse. If people's negative comments bother you that much, why don't you just ignore them? :dunno:

"Great article" and "NY Times." Now there's an oxymoron, if I ever heard one! If people don't think that putting movies and stuff on the network is a bad thing, just look at MTV. That could be TWC in a few years. Any network can get higher ratings by putting on junk. I think they should be more concerned with their integrity, but maybe that's just me. :dunno:

My mother just called  Dish,   Dish saved TWC!!!

TWC WILL go off at midnight tonight then wait  24 hours and then it will be back on.  I believe Dish is keeping both (weather cast and weather channel.)
They already caved? Lame!
