HD Local Concept

This concept is nearly finished, minus the almanac. In addition, changes to the health screen are coming as well. Once the changes are complete, I will upload a final version. Enjoy!

You don't give us much time to read, do you? :P

Flat. Round ones make it harder to see things.

Dislike . I have to agree with Mike M. Similar to a topic rating option, a like/dislike option would show favoritism. Personally, I read topics based on interest, not popularity. But maybe that's just me. :P

General Discussion / Re: Songs You Love To Hate

What's wrong with rap?  :dunno: The rap nowadays, I admit is pretty bad. But rap from the 80s till about 2000 was at its best. The true legends of the rap/hip-hop genre are Tupac, Biggie, Nas, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Run DMC, Public Enemy, Rakim, KRS-One, Slick Rick, A Tribe Called Quest, etc.
Uh, everything. :P First of all, it's not music. Music requires a melody and I've never heard a rap song with a melody. Then there's all the lyrics about hating white people and cops, exploiting women, and glamorizing violence. Sure, not ALL rappers are like that. But a lot of them are.

And I agree others that "Hey Soul Sister" is awful. In fact, anything by Train is terrible.

"Norwegian Mood" by Oystein Sevag is listed on the July 1991 playlist from TWC. I haven't been able to confirm that it was actually used, though.

I'm pretty sure that 3:10- 4:01 Unknown is "Distant Thoughts" by Dan Siegel, which was used in the late 80s.

Not sure about the last unknown.

Good selections!

How does The Weather Channel compete with MTV? I don't really see the connection there
Easy. Both show programming that has nothing to do with their original concept.

I would also have to agree with Beanboy89 for mentioning that if Jim and all of the other good OCMs leaves the network, TWC won't be the same.
TWC hasn't been the same since 2000 or so.

A video featuring Jim Cantore is now on the old site, explaning all the new features of the NEW weather.com. The timeline part is kind of interesting.
Just watched it. Interesting indeed - minus the pop-culture stuff.

Very nice! Still too many ads, and I couldn't find any special maps, but much better than it is now!

But I don't understand how The Beatles can be overrated...they've sold over a billion albums and are the most successful group in the history of the world, possibly the Universe. They definitely deserve to be on top of the world.

And yea, Matt, I think a lot of what you said is poor choices...they form the bulk of commercially successful music in the past 50 years, and most of it is definitely better than what has come out in recent years. But that's just me.
That's kind of the idea. Artists that you think critics and/or fans over-obsess about. It's kind of hard to consider an artist overrated if they don't sell many records. Just because an artist has sold millions of records, doesn't mean they're good.

I know the Beatles are the most successful group ever, but "Love Me Do?" Come on. "We all live in a Yellow Submarine?" Uh, no we don't. I honestly don't get why so many people love them. I suspect a lot of people do because our society tells them they're suppose to.

On the other hand, I do agree that they're better than most of the music released today. Of course, that's pretty easy to do.

I'd also add Pat Metheny to my list of overrated artists.

Yes, this appears to be a full-blown redesign. Not just a minor facelift.

Yea, I'd yank The Beatles from being overrated. Chances are they're better than the off-key donkey whinnies we listen to everyday on the 8's ;) Billy Joel, U2, Eric Clapton and Elton John can get off that list, too.
Somehow I'm not surprised you would say that.
