IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: IntelliStar 2 Beta Launch
« on: November 14, 2010, 03:44:21 PM »
Does anyone know where else Cox has the HD star at?  I noticed Cox will be adding TWC HD to Topeka's lineup and was wondering if maybe Topeka is getting the HD Star too.  Unfortunately we have U-Verse...but we might be getting a few more HD TVs and with U-Verse, I think you can only have so many HD feeds or something, so a call to Cox may be in store soon!

General Discussion / Re: Emergency Alert System

Monroe, MI Charter does not have an EAS system.  :(

Is this a Cable System??  I believe all Cable Systems, regardless of size are required by law to have some sort of EAS.

You can file a report at: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/eas.html

General Discussion / Emergency Alert System
« on: September 13, 2010, 03:00:33 AM »
I have a small interest in the EAS and thought I would post a topic asking some questions.  If you have Cable or Sattelite (or any other TV service besides antenna) do they have an EAS system? If so what does it look like and what do they activate it for?

We recently switched TV service from Cox Cable to AT&T U-Verse.  With Cox it was a plain black screen with white text stating what was going on, with voice heard.  They activated it for Tests, Amber Alerts, Tornado Warnings and I assume would for national emergencies.  Thats it.
Videos:
Tornado Warning

Required Monthly Test (The video's owner prevents external embedding)

With AT&T U-Verse, theirs is a small banner across the bottom of the screen with a EAS Tone heard, and you can dismiss the alert by pressing the Exit button on your remote.  I think this it pretty useful becasue during a Tornado Warning, I would rather listen to the weather people on a local news station than the EAS.
AT&T Activates the EAS for:
(as far as I know) Just about everything including watches!!

Tornado Watch

Since we have had their service (about a week) it has been activated for a weekly test and a Tornado Watch!! Never seen an EAS activated for a Watch but theirs did.  I don't care though since Im a EAS fan.

But I'm just curious to see what other cable provider's EAS looks like and what they activate it for.

We recently switched to AT&T U-Verse and they use (in my area atleast) Cisco IPN330HDs.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: ATT U-Verse and STARs...

It hasn't really been discussed as to if they can actually install Stars on U-Verse.  I don't know if it's possible but I think it is.  Today i found out U-Verse has an EAS!!  There was a RWT eariler today and today we had a Tornado Watch issued and the EAS went off (first TV system I know of to sound for watches) but if they can issue local EAS activations, I imagine they have the capibility to install a Star.  But with their "AT&T U-Verse Weather on Demand" I doubt they will.  Would be nice though.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Profile: Weather Channel #

Under my Profile I went to enter in the channel # my TWC HD is on (1225) but it will only let you enter in three digits.  Can this be fixed?

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: ATT U-Verse and STARs...

Hello everyone.  We recently switched over to AT&T U-Verse because it is surprisingly cheaper and you get more channels.  Of course, it doesn't have a star but it does have a channel right below TWC with an Interactive Weather Application showing Current Conditions, Hourly Forecasts, Day Forecasts, A Radar, Satellite, and in some cities/regions a daily video.  Although it isn't a star, I think it is AT&Ts solution to not having a STAR. So it's not like people with U-Verse are without their local forecast, because they have it.  This also got me thinking, it would be awesome if somehow in the future, TWC had an interactive on-screen weather application.

General Weather Chat / Possible Tornado in Topeka, KS
« on: June 14, 2010, 03:16:37 AM »
Around 11:20PM 6/13 the NWS issued a Tornado Warning for Central Shawnee County including the City of Topeka.  Winds up to 85MPH were reported in Central Topeka where officals believe a small, brief tornado may have touched down.  A funnel cloud was later reported near the NWS office in East Topeka.  Sirens sounded some 25 minutes later at 11:45 as the warning was being allowed to expire, causing confusion for people.  We will know tomorrow whether an actuall tornado touched down.  I was outside most of the time watching the storm pass by and happened to catch a video of the sirens going off (again, as the warning was expiring...)

Either Cox decided to take WxScan off the air for a while or they are sending it in or something.  The channel WxScan is on has been black for hours now... :dunno:

An HDMI Cable on sale for a new TV I am soon getting...can't wait!!

Two Mountain Dew Distortions, one for me and meh friend. :)
That Mountain Dew better win!  There is nothing else like it.  They already have Tropical Punch flavored soda, as well as "Squirt" for the white kind.  It's also the closest thing that actually tastes like Mountain Dew. :D Love it!
Luckily (for me at least) only one state is voting for that (OK) and the total voter % for that drink is 16% (per DEWmocracy.com)

Don't even get me started on those Mountain Dews...
The Disorsition tastes exactly like Mountain Dew to me...maybe a slight different...and White Out...tastes like Siera Mist.  Typhoon is the only one I think is worth them making...and it tastes good too. :bleh:

All of the features work now...although I don't watch it until late at night, I imagine that freezing issue sucks.
