OCMs & Personalities / Re: Michael Lowry - Hurricane Specialist

He was on Sunday evening (10/28) talking about Sandy.  So was Kim.

With Kim and Paul at the Hurricane area, it is nice to see Danielle Banks at the studio, too.

Dayton, Ohio's current Tuesday forecast is "Rain and snow" with highs in the low 40s.  Our normal high would be about 59.  Winter Storm Watches are out in West Virginia's higher elevations.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: 2012 Layoffs
« on: October 21, 2012, 03:06:59 AM »
The really mean thing about all of this is that the current format has been around for a while.  These layoffs mean there is now no intention to have more live weather (no additional live time).  Shouldn't they have thought about this a while back?  They could have saved money then.  It would be nice to have a job, yes, but the expectation of getting any on-air time for these veterans was led to false hope.

....and to think I wanted to be a meterologist :(.  That area really is cut-throat.  I am glad I am just a software engineer with a degree in Computer Science.  :hmm:

We may want to hold off on Heather Tesch. For some reason Nicole Mitchell removed her FB comment on the OCMs who are leaving. Maybe she knows but jumped the gun, or was given wrong info.
I hope she is still on.  When I would catch her on the air - she was pretty outgoing, moreso than in the past.  It is pretty neat to see.

On the flip side, Chris Warren is just painful to watch these days.

The Personalities page has a few spaces missing.

Adam and Heather are still on there, though - somebody take a snapshot of the page....and the RADIO section, too.  There may have been radio people laid off, too.

I don't see Peter Lik on there, or Greg Postel

Local Forecast / Re: 20th Anniversary of playlist

I know that 2 months ago in August is technically the 20-year anniversary of this local forecast music playlist, but this playlist time period was well underway at this time 20 years ago and would continue through the end of March 1993.

I had some favorites that were on that 8/92-3/93 playlist:

Weekend In Monaco - The Rippingtons

Jenny C - Peter Buffett

Indian Summer - The Rippingtons

Lovin You (More) - After Five Jazz

If you are old enough to remember, share some of your favorites from that particular playlist.
All of the Above and always trying to catch the two-time a day only playing of St. Tropez by the Rippingtons.  I still use that song on my WeatherStar emulator  B).  I'll probably chime in on this thread often - it was my senior year in high school.

It doesn't sound like things are getting any better at TWC.  We still have the same amount of time of "reality" programming.  That is less TV time for OCMs - any time on-camera seems to be at a premium.  Combined with revenue issues, I guess this happens.

Given what happened with The Today Show this summer, I can't be surprised. :(

It's sad to see - I liked seeing him on the air (I remember him back to when I first got cable in early 1989!)....he was a veteran influence in the attention-deficit era of today.

It's also a sign that the overbroadcast of "reality" programming is taking its toll on the remaining meteorologists on the network.  I could take the excuse of their "saving money" by putting these other shows on, but now it's just too much.

I really only watch during 10-11pm/1-2am when there are live people on - although the Chris Warren rambling/Crystal Egger mispronunciations get to me even then.  I am working or out of the house most other times.

I am one who is in the "let the NWS handle it" boat.

When I read "social media world", that's a red flag to me....

Did anybody who came up with this list know about "retiring" names?

They're running into planet/moon names!

Seriously weather.com?  Are you kidding me?

I've heard of a "freeze" before but never a "feeze."
Aw, Daaaaang - in my area, too!  B)

That's not a blooper. Kim and Carl are both officially called Hurricane Specialists by the network now.
Kim was in the Air Force at one time, and I think she did do some work with hurricanes.
