Local Forecast / Re: 4000/XL/Jr. - The End Is Near
« on: May 11, 2014, 03:16:01 AM »
I have been fortunate to see the 3000, the Jr., the 4000, and most of the Intellistars.

Knowing that the 4000 was based on an SGI derivative and SGI went bankrupt in 2006, it proves that they had a good product and could keep it going.

With those who still discussed the 4000, it was noted that it was having more trouble keeping up with the changes in TWC's formatting of the local forecast in general.  With this latest "kindergartener icon/Windows8" garbage playing now, there was a marked increase in the troubles the legacy stars were having if there were any left out there.  It's expensive to even find some of the ways to fix them anymore.  It's easier to hand out a newer system and go.

We still have the Simulator, and even that has been running into external site issues!

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Re: Severe Weather Alerts
« on: February 22, 2014, 06:28:46 PM »
I just heard the tones on mine two days ago when severe weather went through southern Ohio.  The warning part was a white strip with red letters.

.....and there was a second scroll right underneath it that was weather headlines or something like that!  How distracting!!!  :hammer:

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: DirecTV Dropping TWC
« on: January 15, 2014, 12:44:11 AM »
The professionalism of the OCM's has really went through the basement floor. In my opinion, a major television network like TWC should make sure their broadcasters maintain a large degree of professionalism, and don't crack unnecessary jokes and stupid comments. 10+ years ago, the TWC mets were more serious, and gave you the forecast and the facts, without all the side bullcrap. TWC is not a sitcom, it's an informational network.
Not only that, they actually EXPLAINED the weather instead of seeing blobs of color move across a blinding white map.

Each "upgrade" of graphics has led to more and more and more "dumbing down".  I have become more and more disappointed with each set of icons and maps - and I am a programmer as a profession.
Some OCMs, with Chris Warren being the biggest example, BABBLE about pictures and things they see.  Others just read what is on the screen and provide NO background to what they are presenting.

The November upgrade is like the Obamacare of weather information - we are forced to like it because we pay the cable bill.  They went to the lowest common denominator by providing the city weather, three radars, 36 hour forecast, day planner, and seven day.....and a silly recap and opening JOKE!  Who in the world decided on that?!

The local and regional observations?  Gone!  All I see in my area is the main city, and two local towns with small populations!  It's downright PAINFUL to watch these days.

I can't say I'd blame DirectTV.  It could be an opportunity for Dave Schwartz's to show them how the old TWC days went.  NBC's networks are taking a hit because they have all lost credibility.

Programming and Graphics / Re: New Graphics coming to TWC

Just got home and turned on TWC and the HD border is black/Grey and the TWC logo is red! Along with the SA music on the LO8, I'm liking this SA Look!

Dat red LDL though... :3

That means that the Intellistar is upset:censored:   :rofl2:

After seeing some of these posts, especially on the programming part, it basically removes any chance of my seeing live TWC as I know it.  I mean 5 to 8pm with live weather and then reality shows until 4am?  Come on!
It's turning into a national version of a kind of AccuWeather channel where there are probably TAPED clips of meteorologists.

I would actually drop everything to see 10pm with even a tropical update with live people and they are taking that away?  :dunno:

The question is why is TWC hiring new OCMs when they are cutting live weather news hours?
...and there aren't that many live hours left to take!

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Lorenzo

I think this is the first time Lorenzo, the name, has been used.  It replaced Luis.

The M storm is also new this year -> Melissa replacing Marilyn.

Wow - I saw a YouTube clip with this song but never knew where to find it, Cool Breeze

I guess I'm several months too late, I stumbled across that site earlier this year or late last year. (and the site with "Colors" by Steve Saltzman)

I didn't think anyone would be interested or I naturally assumed most folks here knew about it already.
I don't think it would do any harm to post a link anyway.  Somebody may not know where to find it. :)

Aw, man!  He was a Hoosier, too....and an IU grad.  55 is way too young.
I bought his CD three times (I used them so much!  I would have to replace one that broke).
I still use his music on my emulator!  :cry3:

These New OCMs could be part of the Upcoming Local On The 8s "Relaunch"
What's the local on the 8s relaunch? BTW, I haven't seen Keith Carson on yet.
Only half the month is over, though..  :dunno:

Programming and Graphics / Re: New Graphics coming to TWC
« on: July 07, 2013, 03:39:34 AM »
I'm very anxious to see what's in store for the LOT8s later this year.  It's hard to believe that in October the SD IntelliSTAR will be approaching its sixth year since the latest upgrade.  With the Emergency Feed running on TruVu Max now, I wonder if the locals will follow suit?

On the other hand, I am perfectly fine with the graphics TWC currently has and am not looking forward to a change any time soon.  TWC updates their on-air graphics far too often in my opinion.  Is that all the graphics department does?  The day new graphics debut they have to go back to the drawing board and start making even better ones?
I remember distinctly being upset with this version of graphics because I saw it as "dumbed down" from previous versions.
