OCMs & Personalities / Re: Worst OCM Currently

I am kind a biased for Kim - she's a Buckeye.

Wow - this poll is rough.  I didn't vote, but I guess I can make a mention.

Todd Santos?  His voice is rough to take long term, but what bugged me most was his hairstyle.  It looks okay now, but after years of struggling, he has reached 2011.

Eric Fisher comes off as a bit superficial.  Other than that, he seems okay.

Crystal Egger, I would say, does not rank very high with me.  She wouldn't read town names if they were on the screen - she should at least find out how to pronounce things before going on air.  She has improved over time, though.

Chris Warren isn't so bad - but he has wavered a bit lately - too much rambling.

Mike Bettes, also a Buckeye, and he worked in Dayton before the Weather Channel - he seems like he forces himself to be outgoing on the air.  It's kind of overkill.

There is one OCM who, to me, is underrated and needs a positive honorable mention.....Danielle Banks.  I have been impressed with her - she reminds me of the veteran OCMs.  She is very personable on the air.

These remarks aren't really of any substance, though

I got to see Cheryl Lemke give a few forecasts this past weekend while in SBN.  She was trying to get over a cold. :(

She is still a class act, even taping a thank you message to the people of Michiana while announcing the arrival of Paul Emmick.  That was a surprise.

If she is due on St. Patrick's Day, then that means she is ..... five months along.  She had to tweet about it since she was showing and couldn't hide it anymore.   She looks further along in that pic to me, though.

Didn't Wilma have a track like that in the beginning?

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Alert scrolls
« on: October 15, 2011, 03:31:09 PM »
I miss the full screen scrolls.  The messages scrolling across the bottom are too slow.  I would have a tornado warning and it took forever to get details on where it was at!  One turned out to be right over my town!  Lots of notice .

The fired met, Ricky Mecklenburg, was arrested by South Bend police earlier this year and subsequently convicted (it's a loooooong story). He has proven to be mentally unstable and may have resumed his chemical addictions. WSBT locked him out of their facility and a no trespass order is in effect. There's much more but I gotta run ...
I doubt there was mental instability, but he was arrested for making a false report about the South Bend police firing at his car or something like that - he was drunk at the time.  The charges were dropped, but he still had to get treatment for the drinking.  The arrest was in November, 2010 and was over by February, 2011 - he was fired in July.  There was something about their not letting him take a vacation (to spend with family) since the two other meteorologists were about to go on maternity leave.

He recently filled in for a meteorologist in Grand Rapids, Michigan according to YouTube clips I have seen.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Ophelia
« on: September 22, 2011, 08:37:27 PM »
Wait a minute, Ophelia? Wasn't there an Ophelia in 2005, too? Why is the name being used again?

Hurricane names repeat every six years, Vic. ;) Thus, we are using the 2005 list again. If a storm does not do enough damage to warrant a retire, then the name will be used over again. Not all names are retired every year.

Yep - 2011 is the EXACT same list as 2005 except for the record FIVE names retired in 2005.
DON replaced DENNIS
KATIA replaced KATRINA
RINA replaces RITA
SEAN replaces STAN
WHITNEY replaces WILMA

...and the latest forecasts have all 21 names used this season for only the second time...2005 being the last time.

Pretty neat.

I am surprised, given the location, that the regional cities are so lopsided to the east.  There is only Montgomery and Mobile, and then none in Mississippi!

I would hear her all the time in the late 80s - that Days Inn segment was one of my favorites, and this commercial was not bad.  I finally did get the name of the song (from this site!) used for the 30-second local forecast.  I would always tune it at 20 after for it .

I remember those clips from the 90s!  Well, not those exact clips, but seeing Vivian on the air back then.  And yes, she looks great even after thaving children.  I have always liked her slight southern accent while on air.  Like Jim Cantore said, it was relaxing.

I also like it as it is now.
If it wasn't for TWC Classics, I wouldn't be able to find the good music, and to remember some of the neat people who worked there - I only vaguely remember the mid-80s watching at my grandmother's house, but got cable myself in January, 1989, so it does take me back.

I wouldn't change it - discussion might be in recession mode now anyway.

Local Forecast / Re: Dan Chandler's local forecast narration
« on: September 07, 2011, 01:35:16 AM »
My Outlook pretty much disappeared shortly after the 4000 premiered.  They switched the flavors, and the Regional Forecast was right before the radar.  With the Almanac, I remember being a bit disappointed when I could no longer see the normal highs and lows the 3000 had.
