Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Debby

A stationary Debby is definitely NOT what some cities in the southeast need right now.  Good gosh, the NHC doesn't have it making "landfall" until Thursday evening!  I just hope Pensacola doesn't get washed away!  It was one of the target cities for all the rainfall a couple of weeks ago and now has to deal with this.

Also, Eric, does Daytona Beach have enough rainfall to last you guys through the next couple of years? :P  You all got to experience both Beryl and Debby!

Yeah, this storm just doesn't want to budge.  I love how the forecast cone turned into a forecast "blob," as someone on TWC mentioned earlier this evening.

We had such a severe drought this winter, so rain is welcome.  However, two tropical storms in a month is a little much.  We don't need THIS much rain in such a short period of time!!

Even Daytona Beach is getting pounded by heavy rain.  The parking lot outside is flooded.  We're under a tornado watch, and tornado warnings were springing up all over the place earlier tonight.  (Things seem to be quieting down a little bit now, though, though the rain is still coming down in buckets.)

What does them abbreviating the name have to do with the history of the network?

They already have no respect for the history or purpose of the channel (other than lip-service, really), so changing the name or abbreviating it will only reflect that.  Besides, most of the time The Weather Channel hardly focuses on real weather anymore, anyway.

NBC seems desperate to attract the lowest-paid (and, hence, lowest-qualified) talent available.  It's sad - total destruction is what they want, apparently.

I never lived in New York City, but even I know who Sue Simmons is.  It will be sad that she won't be anchoring the news anymore - it seemed like she always did a good job.  (And gave a gracious apology for her on-air slip-up.)

Well, this guy had no problems pointing to anything else.  :)

I hope that doesn't happen, the immediate GC doesn't need that kind of rainfall for that long period of time.

I don't think any location needs a week's worth of heavy rainfall in a single go ever!

This just proves that NBC now treats all of its (non-sports) cable networks as "one and the same" in terms of programming.

I just had a thought - how much longer until The Weather Channel becomes "Discovery 2"? :cry3:

I like the horse - it reminds me of the early "Weather you can always turn to" IDs.

Not a TWC blooper, but an interesting enough one nonetheless.  An Orlando TV meteorologist, while talking about the tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico, kept talking about its impact on Cuba while continuously pointing to the Yucatan Peninsula.  I just kept thinking... "Really?"

Flooding isn't a good thing, but a drought isn't, either.  There's obviously no such thing as "ideal" in real life, but I'd personally like to see a little more rain than parched land and wildfires all over the place.

The extended forecast screen for Daytona Beach already has a red box drawn around Saturday with the expectation of "heavy rain."

One wonders whether this will have the opportunity to actually develop into a tropical system, or whether this will be like last October's not-quite-tropical storm that still caused a lot of problems.  Either way, there's going to be a whole lot of wet.

Very interesting - thanks for the link!

Note to moderators: I know I've been told not to reply to threads in the Tech Support area, but I thought this may be an exception. Sorry if I caused any issues!

I certainly hope an exception will be made in this case, because your description of the situation is excellent.
