TWC and your Cable Company / HD feed on SD channel
« on: June 21, 2013, 08:32:22 PM »
I just noticed that Bright House Networks in Daytona Beach is now airing the HD feed on its SD channel (letterboxed), complete with the IS2 being shown instead of the regular Intellistar.

Is this happening for anyone else?

It took me a while to notice.  I have an HD cable box in the bedroom, but just basic cable without a box (though with an HDTV set) in the bedroom.  I was in the bedroom, just turned on the TV to TWC when the "local on the 8s" LDL came on during longform, and it took me a while before I noticed that not only was the aspect ratio different, but I was looking at the IS2's LDL.  Quite strange.

Maybe I'll start having Intellistar 1 withdrawals now?  :)

What, exactly, are you basing this on? :dunno:

If anyone is interested in watching, I made a very cool radar timelapse featuring Tropical Storm Andrea! :)

That's amazing!

Summer officially starts in 10 days at 1:04 AM EDT on June 21.  How is everyone doing to start their summer breaks or plans for a vacation later?  I sure can't wait to get a break from work in five days.

I have my annual birthday vacation in two weeks.  I plan on staying in bed and reading my Kindle.

Why do i have the feeling twc is going in a g4 direction?

Does this include renaming the channel?  Oh, man.

Honestly, I kind of wish they would.  Just put a close to The Weather Channel and let the renamed channel do its own thing, have its own raison d'ętre, and so on.

The rain from Tropical Storm Andrea has ended (at least for now) in Daytona Beach, the sun is coming out, and the temperature's climbed from the mid 70s to near 80°.

I used to work in the electronics department, but I got reassigned to checkouts about a year ago.  Patience is not something I have a lot of, so it's often a struggle.  I have customers who truly consider me to be a slave - after all, they're paying customers, and I have to do anything to keep their business.

One of the most bizarre requests a customer made of me: a customer was a few dollars short of the total owed, so she told me to pay the rest of it with my own money, and then she started to grab her bags and walk away.  I held onto the bags and told her that I was not going to pay for customer's purchases with my own money and that she either had to pay the full amount or remove some merchandise from her purchase.  After screaming until she was literally red in the face and calling me every name in the book, she abandoned the purchase altogether, yelling about how horrible my customer service was for not "helping" her and "giving her a break."

A more frequent problem is when customers don't know how they want their merchandise bagged.  I'm willing to bag things the way people want me to (I'm particular about bagging when I'm a customer, too).  However, when customers change their minds several times and expect me to unbag everything just to rebag it again, all the while holding up my line with a growing queue of impatient customers behind them... that's too much.  One customer had me bag, unbag, and rebag no fewer than six times, after which I pointed out that I had a growing line of customers that needed attention, and that I was going to put the bags in the customer's carriage, along with some extras in case they were needed, so the customer could bag his items the way he wanted them.  Well, that stopped everything cold, and it got so bad I had to tell my waiting customers they might actually get faster service in other lines.  I had to call the manager, and the customer insisted that I refused to bag his merchandise outright.  Fortunately, the manager knows I'm not a nut, so the security tape was reviewed, and the customer was then told that I had, in fact, bagged and rebagged six times already.  The customer said he didn't care about that - it was my refusal on the SEVENTH time that made him angry.

I have to agree with Brandon.  It seems that there are certain people who will give someone a lot of grief for a duplicated post or thread, a response that isn't quite "kosher," and so on, and it doesn't need to be this way.  In my opinion, the best way to handle this would be for a moderator to simply say that this topic was being merged with one that already existed, and that's that.

I wish there was more historical imagery of the places I've lived.  Most of the time, it's just a black-and-white or very blurry view that's pretty much exactly the same as what it looks like now.  Differences are few and far between, but sometimes interesting.  I can see what the new owners did to my grandparents' former house in suburban Philadelphia, and the historical images show that their next house in Gettysburg was in the middle of a totally empty field just a few years before the subdivision was built.

I'm not exactly sure what lava-chasing has to do with weather  :dunno:  I'm certain that nobody else knows why either.

I think, by this point, any activity that takes place outdoors qualifies as having "something" to do with the weather.  In the absence of a "Geology Channel," I think The Weather Channel is as close as they're going to get for finding a place for such a show.  It doesn't seem to fit with Discovery's current programming, and The Learning Channel is now anything but.

So... running out to buy a kitchenful of canned goods and bottled watter before everything disappeared from the store shelves was a bad idea? :smoke2:

Nice find!  It sure is a colorful local forecast, certainly!  How ironic that the radar screen displays better than anything else!  :)
