Shouldn't the SD/HD Satellite LDL have a clock on it?

It did for a very brief time when the new LDL was introduced a year ago.  However, that was only because the IntelliStar LDL didn't have one, and people complained.  When the IntelliStar LDL got a clock, it was removed from the national LDL.

Someone uploaded with the now-defunct 3-day Extended Forecast with modified weather icons following The Week Ahead over St. Louis, MO. We all miss the 3-day Extended Forecast, and I wish I'd bring it back on the IntelliStar in the future.

But why do you miss it? :dunno:
Because its defunct ;)

So is duck and cover.  Not everything that's defunct needs to be brought back simply because it's defunct.

I agree with you completely.  Reduction of funding for the NWS is just outright dangerous.  You mentioned a great point - tornado warnings.  These have been improved to the point where there is often enough warning time to move to safety, and this dramatically reduces the number of deaths.  (Yet another reason why I say that every household should have at least one NOAA Weather Radio.)

However, in order to provide such early warnings, frequent monitoring of atmospheric conditions is necessary, and you have to have well-trained meteorologists keeping track of things.  Less monitoring will only lead to shorter warning times, and, sadly, unnecessary deaths as a result.

Martin, some of us happen to like PBS.

1236
It's terrible that Congress would even CONSIDER cutting funding that plays such a vital role in protecting the SAFETY of people.

1237
Congress wants to cut funding for PBS.  Congress wants to cut funding for the National Weather Service.  Congress wants to cut funding for pretty much everything except its own paychecks.

Bad, bad stuff.

Yesterday during coverage of a snow storm in South Korea, Pyeongchang was misspelled as Pyongyang, which is actually the capital of North Korea!

Thanks.   I'm enjoying the intellistar.   Hopefully they are upgrading our STAR and just using the Weston STAR until the XL is repaired or replaced with an ISTAR.  Cool to see our cable company has used all generations of the STARs.

I hope you'll be getting an upgrade, too!  :)

Our normal STAR is an XL #003028, Summersville, WV.   Now we are getting an Intellistar #30844.  This star is showing weather from Weston, WV.  Weston is approx 70 miles north of us.   I think it's a mistake with the cable provider.  Could the STAR Team Check into this?    I hope this is not permenant.  Because the weather is very different in the these locations.  Our cable provider is Shentel.  Thanks

Sometimes this happens when your local Star is down for repairs or otherwise has to be taken offline for whatever reason.  It's usually a temporary situation.  But I'm sure the Star team will look into it for you.

All i can say is WOW! i can't wait for my area to get this!
What I'm thinking that my area likes this, but shouldn't get it.  It is more capable to damage, but I LOVE THAT AWESOME DESIGN. P.S. What does the intellistar 2 logo look like? Would it look like the original?

Your area "likes" this?  More "capable to damage"?
:dunno:

I'd still like to see an LDL on the local forecast, though the upper-left corner does that already.  Still... it seems like an awful lot of wasted space.

Since they did away with that large weatherbar, I sure wish they would turn the XL's black bar back on!

It honestly doesn't make any sense for them not to, other than to save some computer programmer a couple of hours' worth of work.

Really, if you don't have an IntelliStar, then The Weather Channel now has precious little to offer in the way of local weather information: no LDL, no local squeezeback... just "Local on the 8s" during live programming and weather advisory scrolls.  And, considering the amount of longform programming now, the lack of the LDLs, especially, and also the squeezebacks, means you'd better hope you live in a city that's covered by whatever the national feed shows.
