Who is this @treyb79?  I agree - it sounds like he's trying to intimidate you.

So long as they're properly credited and you're not pretending to be affiliated with an organization that you're not a part of, you should be able to use any NOAA-produced maps.

Programming and Graphics / Re: Updated Graphics

Are new intros to much to ask for.  :P
Yes, probably. :bleh: However, I personally would like to see graphics that have a common theme. Not holding my breath, however.

They had those 20 years ago.  :)

I really can't understand the disconnect here. Are these executives just this out of tune with the world?

I think that's always the case.  Do you own "The Simpsons" on DVD?  The commentaries are very interesting to watch, and they producers often tell stories of what the network would like to do to the series.  ALL of them are the most STUPID ideas you can imagine.  However, fortunately for that show, they have it in their contract that, other than censorship issues, the network can't actually force an idea onto the show or retaliate if the producers ignore them altogether.

Sadly, though, it does seem to be true that network executives think they're so much better at planning and creating programming than the people who are actually trained to and being paid for that very thing.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Happy 29th b-day, The Weather Channel!

Is there a video of what happened on their 20th anniversary in 2002?

I had that on videocassette for a long time.  Not anymore, though.  :(

Programming and Graphics / Re: Tornado Specials coming to TWC
« on: April 30, 2011, 11:04:05 PM »
I miss the specials TWC aired in the 1980s and early 1990s.  They were considerably rarer than today, but that was good for two reasons: they were an infrequent, yet welcome, programming change, and, because there was more time to work on them, they were of exceptionally high quality.
Agreed. What I liked about them was that they focused more on the science of the weather involved. Weather was the focus, not people. Today the main focus is the misfortunes of those involved. I watch TV to be entertained and/or informed. I don't watch it to become depressed. It also makes it seem like they're profiting off these poor people. I know that's not their intention, but it does seem that way when a special is made about a specific storm, shortly after it happens.

I completely agree with you.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: New Banner

I guess you are right. But I do have a question... was the logo red all this week? Or was it normal? (Haven't been online all week iirc).

I don't remember 100%, but I think I do remember seeing a red banner.  However, considering TWC was in alert mode, that makes sense.

With the recent tornado outbreak in the south, TWC is going to air some tornado specials next week.

No big suprise here.

I still remember the first special I watched on TWC: "Force Four" hosted by Marshall Sease in 1989 about Hurricane Hugo.  It was so well made that I kept that tape for years and years!  I wish I still had it, but... my mother had a habit of determining for herself what possessions I did and did not need, and, suffice it to say, I've lost a lot of stuff over the years simply because she thought it was unnecessary.

I don't think it's necessary.  Otherwise, special banners will be expected after every "major" severe weather event causing casualties, and then people will start arguing over what's "major" enough to warrant a banner in the first place.

We are working to get approval from their lab now.  It has taken MUCH longer that anyone would have dreamed.

Looks like there is indeed some progress...

One can only hope.  I wonder what kinds of technical issues there were, but at least some progress is being made... that's the important thing, I suppose.

Im too confused by this thread...

I think it needs to get closed again, or this confusion may never end.

My strong advice for ilovestorms1 is to get a feel for this forum before doing anymore posting.  Just read, follow conversations, and you'll see how people in here communicate with each other.  Then, when you're more familiar and comfortable with the kind of discourse that takes place in here, you can start posting again.  But when it comes to your kids of requests, maybe it's just better to stop them altogether for now.  You're being perceived as a greedy, demanding person, and that's not a good thing.
Well said

Thank you... but please forgive the shameful typos. :footinmouth:

I'm actually talking about PlayBasic, and the mockup EAS videos.

Am I missing something?

Anyone can make a mock-up of pretty much anything.  Are you asking someone to make a mock-up for you?

EDIT: Don't know why my topic got deleted.

Repeating a thread that has already been deleted by the forum administration may not be the wisest thing to do.

Unless they had a weather radio or someone called them early enough they may have not known what was coming for them.

Is there ever an excuse for not owning a weather radio, especially in tornado-prone areas?
