Local Forecast / Re: Weatherstar 4000 Locations that remain
« on: June 12, 2011, 12:09:43 AM »
I've heard of cable systems using a more distant STAR in case of failure of the local one, but I don't think I've ever heard of a headend keeping a second, more obsolete, STAR as a backup in case the primary one fails!  Very interesting!

At least it didn't make landfall.  Things could have gotten nasty in a hurry.

I think I like the Serbo-Croatian version better.  :)

TWC Fan Art / Re: Michael's Modified TWC Icons

I love to say the the TWC icons 2010-present are awsome.

I think you and I are in a small minority here who feel that way.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: New Banner

Is the Memorial Day banner going to come down?
It's been down for days...

I saw it just a couple of hours ago, but I also didn't bother to clear my cache and reset the page, so that could have been a figment of my computer's imagination.

Hopefully they learned from their "Flick and a Forecast" fiasco last year.
They didn't.

Is there something wrong with the people now in charge of TWC's programming?  I mean... is there something seriously wrong with them?

Either they are too stupid to realize what TWC's whole purpose is, or they actually made the conscious decision to remove the idea of warning people about hazardous weather and replace the channel's whole purpose with just another general entertainment format that every other cable channel has.

I feel sorry for the tiny remaining few who work there who remember what TWC used to be... and SHOULD be.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Carl Parker Now Dr. Forbes' Right Hand Man

Yeah - it seems like he can't get a break at any time, since there's always the potential of some severe weather somewhere!

Did you know... the United States is the only industrialized country that doesn't mandate any vacation time at all?  In Europe, you get a minimum of four weeks a year, period.  And Europeans actually enjoy their vacations more, while Americans tend to think about how much work that's piling up for them to return to.

I'll be moving to Daytona Beach next month... and I certainly hope this isn't a foreshadowing of things to come!  No hurricanes, please... :cry3:

Severe Weather / Re: Severe Weather Season 2011/Severe Wx thread
« on: June 02, 2011, 03:39:20 AM »
My town was on the far periphery of a storm that straddled the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border.  We got some rain and heard plenty of thunder in the distance, but the most eventful part of the evening was seeing the sky glow bright yellow as if it was the middle of the afternoon... and this was about 45 minutes before sunset.

Watching the tornado pass over the bridges in Springfield was just scary!!

General Discussion / Re: Graduations
« on: May 28, 2011, 10:11:42 PM »
I graduated from high school 11 years ago, but it still seems like yesterday.  Actually, it was something I was eager to get over with.  Part of me wanted my youth, my childhood, and my school days to remain, but another part of me just wanted to get on to "real life," to college, and to whatever came after that.  The days between the last class and graduation just seemed like a kind of purgatory that had to be muddled through - it was mostly boring, really.  There was a week between the last class and graduation, and, other than the graduation rehearsal the day before the ceremony, I just had nothing at all to do.

Local Forecast / Re: New SD Satellite LF
« on: May 26, 2011, 09:13:48 PM »
While the new SD satellite local forecast is very similar to the HD forecast, it's not 100% the same, and it's not simply an SD retransmission of the HD feed's forecast.  But the SD forecast is designed to be very, very similar to the HD forecast.

And, if I understand this thread correctly, then, yes, the HD-similar forecast will replace the satellite forecast on the SD feed that's been around for so long.

Will this also be used for the emergency feed?
