OCMs & Personalities / Re: New OCM- Bryan Norcross
« on: August 31, 2010, 10:47:57 AM »
Is this the same Bryan Norcross who did nonstop hurricane weather coverage of Hurricane Andrew from his station's studio basement? If so I think he would make a great addition to TWC as a hurricane specialist.
I remember he would be featured quite often when hurricanes approached Miami.  I always thought he was cool.  It'll be nice to see him on TWC.

Bryan was at WTVJ (then on Ch. 4) in Miami from 1990-96, then went to CBS-owned WFOR in '96 and stayed there until a few years ago.. He was on the CBS Evening News when hurricanes threatened the U.S.

I don't think it's needed. If the river is near flood stage, there already is a crawl - as someone else mentioned - that tells how high the river will get and who/what will be affected. Most folks check their local stations or newspaper to get that info already.

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: IntelliStar 2 Beta Launch
« on: August 31, 2010, 10:33:25 AM »
Yall sure are some impatient people.  <_< Yall act like they will roll out the new Stars across the country next week.

Testing these things out will take weeks, if not months. We're dealing with computers here and they're not perfect.

Great move by TWC. Norcross was THE MAN in South Florida when Andrew jacked up the area in '92. Don't believe me? Go look up his clips on YouTube.

TWC is a business that will do what it wants no matter what we say.  You don't realize how seriously cut-throat broadcast meteorology can be.  It has the worst job security in the field, because it's all driven by ratings and money.  Yes, it's disheartening to us fans, but there's nothing we can do about it.  Every business is like that these days, especially in this current economy where money is so tight.  I hope Betty can find a new job soon.

Now, can we all please stop arguing about this issue?  I'm getting sick of seeing these debates coming up again and again with every layoff.

Thank you. This is how television and entertainment is period. This happens all the time at the Big Four, cable news networks and local stations worldwide. It's all about the bottom line and ratings.

I don't remember them having a STAR either.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Redesigned website coming soon!

I could care less for the beta version of this page. I get the old page when I go to weather .com and have to hit the "Close" button to get to the new site. Some of the articles are not pulling up.

I'd like to also report that incorrect channel numbers are displayed on Charter's IntelliStars in Hammond, LA and Slidell, LA respectively (23622 and 23626). Both have been moved to Channel 38.

General Discussion / Re: Oil Slick In The Gulf

Billy Nungesser is a soldier for the Louisiana coast. He's basically calling the feds and BP out because they aren't doing anything while more oil hits the coast, killing the seafood and wildlife.

God forbid if the brown pelican goes back on the endangered species list...or disappear altogether.

Local Forecast / Re: New Intellistar version?

If they can roll out the new LDL, the least they can do is change the darn fonts on the rest of the LF to match the on-air fonts.

Local Forecast / Re: Satellite LF Sightings
« on: May 11, 2010, 11:37:49 PM »
Satellite LFs at 7:48 and 7:58 PM ET. The 7:58 satellite LF had a very late start.
I've noticed the same thing at the same time...the satellite LDL has been showing since the 8 pm CT hour where I am.
