Local Forecast / Re: Daypart
« on: July 27, 2011, 01:48:54 AM »
A better way to do this IMO would be to either take the local info off the LDL during the 7 day and display the text there, or take the LDL away altogether and display the text more central to the bottom of the 7 day and the bottom of the screen. That would make it less cluttered.

Better yet, why not give it a line on the LDL and it can scroll across the screen when it pops up.

I think I know what "change" you're talking about. It totally caught me off guard.

I saw it earlier tonight at work and I think it's straight B.S. if you ask me. That's the LAST thing I wanted to see.

Not sure if that made it to DirecTV.

EDIT: It is not on the DirecTV LO8s.

I saw the daypart forecast today at 2:38 PM ET on 27100, during the time the radars were out.. is this part of the change?

My guess is that the daypart was used to fill time, since the Star doesn't show the radar when it's not available for long.

Also, anyone with Marine/Tides on their STARs, is the daypart forecast back on those? 24629 never got it since the December 2010 product playlist update due to the marine/tides screens taking priority.

As I said earlier, this is the first I've seen the daypart in a long time, and this counts two coastal Stars: Boston and Daytona Beach.

Add Hammond, La. to that list.

After another streak of hot, dry weather, the Gulf South region has been kind of soggy as of late as showers and storms have plagued the area...not because of the normal afternoon variety of storms but because of disturbances going around the upper high that has been putting a beat down on the Plains states with brutally hot weather.

One more suggestion. And I probably shouldn't double post again but, is there anyway the text on this frame can be changed to simply "Arizona" or could each city get its own dedicated frame?

I seriously doubt that is possible. I know for a fact that Flagstaff's weather is totally different from Phoenix and Tuscon because of elevation alone. Even Phoenix's and Tuscon's weather varies from time to time, especially in winter.

We had some relief from the heat and drought the last full week of June, but the pattern has shifted back. The pattern should change somewhat again starting July 4, giving us our daily showers and storms again.

June has been the driest and hottest on record for Louisiana.

I was checking out the weather in Charlotte via Google's Weather Underground Full Page Weather extension and I noticed the area was under a thunderstorm warning. While reading it, I saw this:

Quote
... Airport weather warning for a severe thunderstorm threat a cloud
to ground lightning threat at the Charlotte Douglas international
Airport...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued an
Airport weather warning for...

Charlotte Douglas international Airport /clt/

* valid until 515 PM EDT

For the following threats...

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for winds of 58 mph or greater and hail
1 inch in diameter or larger.

* Cloud to ground lightning within 5 miles of the Airport.

Haven't seen anything like that from the NWS. Have you all have?

Hot! Hot! Hot! That's the name of the game in the area and has been for weeks. Some good news: It looks like the pattern is about to shift starting this weekend. The high that's been keeping us hot and dry is moving eastward and by next week, our daily afternoon thunderstorms should return.
