General Discussion / Re: Charles Abel-Lear 1980-2019
« on: November 10, 2019, 08:00:19 PM »
I found out on Matt's facebook. It was and is such a shock! I am so sorry to hear this! :( He will be greatly missed. Prayers for his family.

Earlier this decade, 2010-2012, people were still coming here on a regular basis. Others no longer coming on here has made me not want to come on here, and I guess it's like a domino effect. I have a severe weather thread back from the spring of 2011 and it has multiple pages due to the unusually stormy (and tornadic) period from that year.

Have our members simply lost interest, moved on to other things or maybe a combination of both?

General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

I don't even remember the last time I even watched TWC. I think I was at a hotel, a couple of Sundays ago. Even that time was brief, and I don't remember the last time I watched it here at home. I never watch for hurricane coverage, due to their tendency to overhype and over dramatize them. I'll never forget the video of two people walking in a normal manner last year, as Mike Seidel went out of his way to pretend it was all he could do to stand up since the wind was so "strong".

It is great to still have some people around though. I do agree that these days The Weather Channel has kind of turned to crap and the great days of the channel we all loved are behind us.
I'm afraid that's right. :(
Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of fans of the past have moved on to other things. I still post new content to TWCC almost every week, though!
Yeah I wish more people would come on here, especially ones who used to be on here all the time.  :(

Hurricane Central / Re: Major Hurricane Michael Upgraded
« on: April 30, 2019, 09:04:00 PM »
This is very interesting news. With Matthew being nearly three years ago, it’s strange that they would make such a decision.
Matthew was nothing compared to Michael. All those statements Bryan Norcross made about it being a historic storm, denying he was hyping it, was based on hindsight. Matthew produced coastal flooding along Florida's east coast but was nowhere near what Norcross said it would be. Michael caused massive devastation.

Historical records Michael broke....
-Latest Category 5 hurricane to hit the US.
-4th strongest hurricane to hit the US, trailing only behind the Labor Day 1935 hurricane, Camille (1969), and Andrew (1992).
-3rd hurricane to hit Florida as a Category Five.

Here's a historic record broken that you left out: 1st Category 5 ever to strike the panhandle portion of the state (FL).

Dr. Greg Forbes in on TWC again covering severe weather? I surely hope he, unlike Dave Schwartz, survives it.

General Emulator Discussion / Re: This emulator needs an update...

I don't mean to change the subject and get off of it, but I want to say that everyone who does these WeatherSTAR emulators are very gifted and extremely talented. I wouldn't even know where to start if I were going to try to make one.
