General Discussion / Re: At least it won't get stolen

I really don't care for electric cars. This country isn't ready for them, good enough infrastructure isn't in place, and, now this. I feel like the benefits of electric cars are outweighed by the production of their batteries, which are often worse than the chemicals used in traditional gasoline cars.

I agree.  Some day the technology and infrastructure may be good enough to allow us to all drive electric cars, but that day is not today.

China, the world's worst polluter BY FAR, is in the midst of a major cold snap.

Maybe we're looking at all of this CO2 business the wrong way?   :rofl2:

At this point, I imagine it's more likely they drop the full-screen LOT8s than refresh them.

It sure seems to be trending that way.

Was wondering what had happened when I tried to come here a few weeks ago and nothing would load.

Same here.  I thought the site was history, so I pretty much gave up on it.  Decided to give it a try tonight and was delighted to find it back online. :thrilled:

I'll be around more often now.  B)

Berkley Professor Richard Muller gives an example of how we are being misled by the ''experts.''

HURRY, before YouTube yanks the video.

General Discussion / Switzerland to ban electric cars?
« on: December 24, 2022, 08:31:26 PM »
If the energy crisis gets any worse.

Electricity is a valuable commodity, and there is not enough of it right now.  IMHO, Switzerland is STUPID for phasing out its nuclear plants... they should be building MORE of them.  We know that these electric vehicles require a ton of electricity to recharge them.

Forcing everybody into an EV before upgrading the power grid is worse than putting the cart in front of the horse, and will ultimately lead to disaster.  Of course, some people want that.

General Discussion / You must buy one but you can't charge it
« on: September 03, 2022, 08:18:39 PM »
This sounds like a joke.

Currently, only 1.6% of California's 30 million vehicles are electric.  1.6 percent, and the grid CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THAT!

It's been estimated that the State would have to add 17 Gigawatts of electricity to accommodate 30 million EVs, and if you seriously think that you can get those 17 GW with windmills and solar cells, you need to face reality.  For a state currently facing an energy crisis, this EV mandate is like pouring gasoline on an open fire so to speak.

Are the people running that state
A. Clueless
B. Stupid
or
C. Deliberately trying to destroy the fifth largest economy in the world

All this ''green'' or ''renewable'' energy can complement what we have now and REDUCE our usage of ''fossil fuels'', but they cannot REPLACE traditional energy sources.  Europe is currently finding this out the hard way.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Is cable TV going downhill?
« on: August 22, 2022, 09:24:52 PM »
In terms of scheduling, cable tv is definitely not the same as it used to be. Before the days of Netflix and such, they used to give shows equal screentime, regardless if it iwas a hit or not. But then sometimes around the 2010s, most tv networks started dedicating to playing lots of reruns of a particular show because it gets the most ratings, such as:
Ridiculousness (MTV)
Impractical Jokers (TruTV)
SpongeBob (Nickelodeon/Nicktoons)
Friends (Nick at Nite)
Teen Titans GO (Cartoon Network)
Puppy Dog Pals (Disney Junior)
Andy Griffith Show (TV Land)
Bar Rescue (Paramount Network)
South Park (Comedy Central)

Go check the TV Guide and you know what I'm talking about...

It seems like ''The Office'' is the only thing that airs on Comedy Central anymore.

Some less than $4.00.

There is a good side to a recession, I guess.   :dunno:
