With all the unrest in Egypt and now Libya, we all know which way it's headed.

But that makes even less sense to want to be a teacher for money, a lot of teachers don't make that much money not to be a millionaire anyway. There was a somewhat similar problem here in my state the past few years when it came to raises for teachers where our former Republican gov. was going to give teachers here a 10% raise, the 8 years he was in office I don't believe teachers got more than about 2%.

Teachers in Wisconsin make $89,500 a year (salary + benefits).  The national average is $61,000.

And remember, most teachers only work 9 months a year.

They're whining because they don't want to have to pay 5.8% of their pension.  TRANSLATION: 94.2% of their pensions will still be paid for them.

This whole Unionization thing doesn't make sense to me.  As it is in Wisconsin, if you work for the State, you are forced to join the Union.  What is so wrong about giving individuals the right to choose?  If you want to join the Union, go ahead;  if you don't... then don't.

Yesterday, on the news.  There was a reporting station that recorded a low of -28 north of Tulsa, OK.  That's unreal!

I head that.   :o

The warmup begins soon.

Here's more on the Blizzard of `11 from the Chicago NWS office.

During the heaviest part of the storm, snowfall rates could be 1-3 inches per hour.

Details please.

We measured the yard in about 5 different spots, and it averaged 25 inches.  The "official" tally here in Highland was 23.9 inches, so we were close.

One drift completely covered our 4 foot cyclone fence.  No thunder here though.

Chicago Police were using snowmobiles to rescue people on Lake Shore Drive!  I've never seen anything like that.

Get ready...

North central Illinois could expect to see upwards of 8 inches of snow, while Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana will receive 18-24 inches OR MORE.  A lot of Lake Effect.

This is the first time I've ever seen an IntelliSTAR icon for Thundersnow.   B)

EDIT: I almost forgot.  Strong (50+ mph) winds are expected to cause 15-30 foot waves on Lake Michigan.

I'm at work and don't know my local star# but, I'm on the Romeoville head end with Comcast and our LOT8's has been about 2 minutes off cue for the past week. The 1st 2 minutes is the national feed, then the local forcast which starts on the 10's and is cutting into the studio show.

Mine's been fine lately, but it screwed up again.  For the past few days, it's been cueing about 30 seconds late.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Comcast Sucks.
« on: January 02, 2011, 05:17:34 PM »
I have a feeling that Comcast has just removed TWC from the analog lineup here. The TWC analog feed went out at about 3:15 PM ET, while the feed coming through our digital box was uninterrupted. The folks over at Broadband Reports are saying that the York/Hanover system is supposed to be upgraded to all digital next month, but maybe they are getting a heard start?

I have yet to find anybody who thinks this is an improvement.   :dunno:

I know two people who have already left Comcast as a direct result of this, and three more are seriously thinking about it.  A buddy of mine switched to UVerse, but it was even worse so he went back to Comcast.

Technology...

General Discussion / Observation in GEICO commercial
« on: December 26, 2010, 09:22:40 PM »
I just want to make sure I'm not losing my mind here.

It's the one GEICO commercial that's a spoof of "Antiques Roadshow" (A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush).  Has anybody noticed the sign hanging on the wall in the background that says "the traveling appraiser?"  The font is different, but the white lettering in the blue box...

Am I the only one who thinks it looks like the TWC logo?
