Someone is getting rich off this.  Don't give me that supply and demand "BS".  Remember the Gulf oil spill.  Gas prices remained the same and went down slightly.

I may or may not have posted this here (I think I did, but I don't have time to look right now).

I would. There's no reason to have them in the public sector.

I can't argue with that.

There was a recent op-ed in my local paper that is very interesting...

Teacher unions challenged to back arguments with data

The price at a station near my house jumped 30 cents overnight, from $3.69 to $3.99.

While those numbers are alarming, they still fail to capture the entire scope of impact from the poor economy lately.  You're not even considering how many people took pay cuts, faced financial hardships when they were previously doing fine, etc.

Precisely.

Here's a depressing article...

No Hope for a Consumer-Driven Economic Recovery

It's very doom-and-gloom, but it confirms several suspicions I've had for several years.  For example, when I was a senior in high school in 1994, the Dow Jones was around 3500.  My then Econ teacher told us that the Dow "should get above 4000 by the year 2000."  When that index hit 11000 in 1998, it seemed fishy to me.

Yes, but how many gave up looking? Unfortunately, that's something we have to consider these days. The media, of course, ignores it.

Gallup shows unemployment at 10.3%, and underemployment at 19.9% in February.   :o

Public employees shouldn't be allowed to join a union at all. They're working for the people, not a corporation.

George Meany (longtime President of the AFL-CIO) agreed with that.  Government doesn't make money, they take money.  And where do they get their money?  As you said, the taxpayers.  Hence, these Public employees are really "bargaining" with the good citizens of America's Dairyland.

I wouldn't go so far as to prohibit Unionization of Public employees, but the rules need massive changes.  Tenured teachers presently cannot be fired no matter how inept they may be.  That's BS.  Incompetent teachers = ill-educated children.  Secondly, if a teacher walks off the job to "strike," they should get a pink slip.

Crude oil is back above $100 a barrel.

I heard on the radio today that some stations in Chicago are charging $4.09.
