Local Forecast / Re: March/April and May 2012 Playlists
« on: May 06, 2012, 01:01:00 PM »They've gone to vocals ck
I wish those songs with vocals would go away.
I like the Eric Johnson song.

General Discussion / Re: Economy Tracker
« on: April 07, 2012, 08:53:49 PM »
The reason why the "unemployment" rate is going down is because
the Department of Labor's unemployment figure does not include people who have given up hope and are not actively seeking employment.

Local Forecast / Re: Has the L-bar been discontinued?

It's irritating. Apparently shows like "Ice Pilots" are too important to interrupt with an L-bar forecast every ten minutes.

I second that.

General Discussion / Re: President Obama Threatening to cut NWS budgets
« on: April 01, 2012, 04:12:16 PM »
As many here know, I'm a believer in small government.
That being said, I think the main purpose of government is to keep people safe, and the NWS does exactly that.
Now, I'm not saying that I totally disagree with the President here. Like every other government agency, I'm sure there is quite a bit of wasteful spending and some corruption within the NWS.
I remember a few years ago when talk of privatization came up and nearly everybody cried foul. As long as it's done right, private management of the NWS is not a bad idea. It would have to be government subsidized so potentially lifesaving weather information will remain free to the general public.
Bring in company A to manage the NWS. If they do a bad job, fire them and bring in company B to see if they can run it more efficiently. If not, bring on company C.
REMEMBER: GOVERNMENT IS A MONOPOLY.
They have no competition, and as a result, there really isn't any incentive to do a good job.
I know there are many dedicated government employees, but we've all encountered some who obviously don't give a crap.

Your Local Weather / Re: Chicagoland Weather
« on: March 27, 2012, 07:43:38 PM »I got two trees fully leafed out.
Our cherry tree is in peak bloom right now. That usually doesn't happen until the middle of April.

I saw $4.49 today.
And it's only March.

Your Local Weather / Re: Chicagoland Weather
« on: March 22, 2012, 10:21:41 PM »I actually saw that on the local weather report today! At the time it was only 6 degrees cooler than Tampa!
At one time this week, Chicago was something like 25 degrees warmer than Phoenix!
This streak of nine consecutive 80+ degree March days ends tomorrow.

In Chicago...
WSCR - 670 AM
WGN - 720 AM
WBBM - 780 AM
WLS - 890 AM*
WMVP - 1000 AM
*WLS has been heard as far away as New Zealand.
One night several years ago, I was picking up an AM station from San Antonio. The sound quality was crystal clear.

General Discussion / Re: Radio station quiz
« on: March 15, 2012, 09:28:27 PM »
I got through to a radio station once. It qualified me for a chance to win a car (which I didn't). My voice was on the air.
I did get a keychain out of the deal.
