Local Forecast / Chris Camozzi - Swing Shift
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:38:22 AM »
I have been looking everywhere for a clean copy of the first print of Swing Shift...all I found until today was the remixed version with Dave Koz.  Then today, I found this....

Chris Camozzi Swing Shift

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Bright House to drop TWC?
« on: June 03, 2010, 04:42:43 PM »
Higher tier != digital-only service in most cases.  TWC did kinda de facto go into a higher tier with the digital switch (analog expanded -> digital classic with analog and "digital basic" below it) but nothing radical.

Now TWC HD to a different tier is a different animal all together.

So AT&T is making new data plans for the iPhone, and I'm saving $15/month!

How can they charge you 20 bucks for tethering (free if you jailbreak) and NOT increase the data cap. You aren't getting anymore data just paying for how you use it. I think thats outrageous
Eh I don't tether (will probably jailbreak since OS4 doesn't have multitasking for the 3G)

Office 2007 has a very steep learning curve, but it great.

If I were TWC, I would revamp those weather.com videos with some decent tv graphics and perhaps a little more content, then send them to the area STARS as well as post them online
Those online videos are the biggest pile of rubbish I've ever seen.  South Bend, Indiana's regional maps (since there isn't a dedicated forecast) are centered over North Carolina.

Wouldn't shock me if it's a trial run.

I like this a lot.  I don't see how they can do it for every major locale in a day, but this is neat.  Not a big fan of the LDL as presented - need to go to the blue bar or get the blue backdrop so it doesn't look weird.

Programming and Graphics / Re: "Flick > Forecast"

Even CNBC is going to show movies on friday nights, although this just seems for the summer:
http://www.cnbc.com/id/37218663/COMING_THIS_SUMMER_CNBC_PRESENTS_CNBC_CINEMA
Zero comparison.  CNBC only programs new programming from 5AM-8PM, then airing either new or repeated documentaries or NBC programs.  They don't have content to cover outside of that point, especially on a Friday night (no market is open on Saturday).

CNBC is also very preemptive happy - when the "flash crash" happened, they added international programming almost instantly for that night.

Do we have a mobile version of the forums?
Right here.

Also: iPhone users are seeing SMF4iPhone.

WeatherScan could probably even be used for the dual feed (can it already?)
I could swear that the Weatherscan channel takes the TWC main feed if something goes wonky with the box.

I can see doing a handful of systems - NE, Mid-Atlantic, South, Great Lakes, Plains, Southwest,  Mountains, Northwest, "LA" area.

Three words for everyone... off site backups!
At the very least anything you want saved needs to be saved three times - local copy, external drive copy, optical media copy, off site copy - any three.

Anyone else think they have been very liberal with long-form preemptions ever since Jim's little rant on Twitter a while back?

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / 26820 - No Ls
« on: May 21, 2010, 03:54:00 PM »
Right now on IStar 26820 , Severe T'Storm Watch 199 is scrolling on the yellow LDL with all the Ls replaced by what appears to be underscores.

i.e. THE WEATHER CHANNEL reads THE WEATHER CHANNE_.

(Well, it stopped scrolling just now, but still.)
