Everything Else TWC / Re: Was that an HD camera?
« on: March 18, 2008, 04:14:39 PM »
Not to run this off a tangent or anything, but Price is Right was shot with HD cameras for ~3 seasons without being in HD.  I'd assume the cameras were bought to replace old ones, and they just bought HD ones so they wouldn't have to replace them when the transition occurred.

Bulk reply:

They're not gonna stop airing TPIR anytime soon...it pulled 8mil viewers last Friday for a primetime special...and that was with ACC and SEC markets selectively airing it due to tournaments.

Agreed with the legends being irreplaceable.  Three names and games jump to mind...

 - Allen Ludden with Password.  He died during the run of Password Plus in 1980, replaced with Tom Kennedy, then Bert Convy with Super Password.  Never was quite the same.
 - Gene Rayburn with Match Game.  Both revivals without him (in 1990 and 1998) failed.
 - Peter Marshall with Hollywood Squares.  Two revivals in 1986 & 1998...only really the '98 one with Tom Bergeron cought on.

Games...remember, Bob hosted 102 games over 35 yrs (some are retired and not currently played).  Drew's hosted 72 of 73 in the rotation...in ~six months.  Major props for that.

Furs were gone by the mid-80s for sure...probably earlier.  I really want to say 1981 (when his mom and wife both died).

Here's your WTF moment for today:

Tonight, one of my local television stations carried a live interview with our governor.  They had to start their news a little early to fit it in.  This is what they said:

"Because of the governor's commitments, we will be pre-empting the last five minutes of NewsCenter 16 at 5:30 so we can air NewsCenter 16 at 6 at 5:55 to fulful the time allotted to us."

Yup...preempting their own newscast for their own newscast.

Imagine..."because of severe weather, we will be preempting the last five minutes of Weather Center with PM Edition."

Well, also keep in mind that you can't get a rebate if you an be claimed a dependent on another's return.
<political rant = ON>
Yeah, I was claimed on my parent's return as a dependent, and didn't qualify them for the extra $300.  But I made enough to qualify for it myself.  But since I was a dependent on my parent's return, I couldn't get it.  F'in screwed out of $300.  Monkeys.
<political rant = OFF>

Local Forecast / Last Night's Events
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:47:07 AM »
Did anyone else's STARs virtually "lock-up" on a Local screen last night/this morning?  When I turned on at 6:30AM, it was just the first screen, not moving at all.  And it had to have been several hours, as the temperature was 6 degrees warmer than the air temp.
