Hmm...if that is the option that we go for, I'd be willing to look into that.  Maybe the best of both worlds.

I'm guessing not, since the option wasn't checked until I checked it last night. AFAIK, activation was instant. You had access the second you registered.

If you were to have an HDTV with a built-in ATSC and QAM tuner, would you still need a cable box from the cable company to get HD channels through cable?

I can answer that...we just got an HDTV with the digital QAM package thingy.  If you just plug it in, you get some bonus channels (like on ours, we get some stuff from the Notre Dame cable system, some extra radar images, and NBA TV) and it tunes the OTA stuff in clear.  donno about if it takes a CableCard or not...

And regarding OTA reception...the only stuff I watch in HD is House, Fox baseball, the Nascar races, the Thursday programming on NBC, and when they do TPIR in HD...no reason for the extra stuff.  TWC | HD on the other hand....
