For the past 38 years, NBC O&O station KXAS-TV in Dallas/Fort Worth has been a long time affiliate of the MDA telethon. They've raised substantial amounts of money locally...like over $2 Million a year. With the MDA Telethon now scaled back to 6 hours on a Sunday Night, the duties have been turned over to KTXA-TV (branded "TXA 21"), due to the fact that it would interfere with NBC's schedule. In KXAS's last recent years of doing this, most of the telethon was preempted because they feel golf and NBC Nightly News is more important. KTXA will begin an hour earrlier at 5PM that night to get a head start on local donations, so I hope they do well.

Link to "MDA Telethon" page on CBS DFW's website.

I have a couple best friends diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. One I knew when I started Middle/Jr. High School and helped out during gym class, and the other I knew in college.

Moments in Love by Art of Noise is playing in the background on WMNF 88.5 FM.
Back in 2002, that song was used as background music for KBFB 97.9 The Beat's "Quiet Storm" hour...you know when the DJs do their sexy voice-over segments.

 - The latest GEICO ones with the people going "So to save money, I <insert dumb thing you did here>"
 - The latest eSurance commercials (post Erin)
 - Any J.G. Witless...I mean...J.G. Wentworth ad.
 - That Old Navy Superfan Nation one. "College or Pro--" "Hey, who's that guy?"
 - Bud Light "Here We Go" commercials.

Do I need to go any further? LOL!

Quite personally, I think it's a much better design. Not that I find anything wrong with the current ones. Sometimes, change is good.

TWC and your Cable Company / Cable Channel Sharing
« on: August 15, 2011, 11:07:14 PM »
During the early days of cable TV, has there been a time where cable networks have to share the same channel spot(s)?

When my area was served by Paragon Cable, three networks had to share the same spot: Prevue Channel, Sneak Prevue (for PPV promos), and Playboy TV. Here's how it was arranged on Ch. 24 on a daily basis: From 5AM to 11PM, they have The Prevue Channel showing in its entirety in its first and last hours. From 6AM to 9PM, Sneak Prevue would occupy the :10-:22/:40-:52 slots with The Prevue Channel showing in the remaining slots. The final 15 minutes of Prevue Channel were scrambled at 10:45PM to switch over to Playboy TV from 11PM to 5AM. It's kinda confusing, but that was their arrangement up until 1999 when Prevue/TV Guide Channel finally had its own spot.

From 1995 to 2002, with the introduction of E! and Cartoon Network to the lineup, the 2 C-SPANs moved to the 70s spots. Months later, C-SPAN2 had to share channel spots with Bravo on nights and weekends on Ch. 72 (Ch. 96 on cable-ready TVs).

The biggest laugh, The Prevue Channel/TV Guide Channel had Bravo listed on Ch. 16, however in Irving, we had one of the Public Access channels occupying it.

Those who have Time Warner Cable, what channels were taken off the analog lineup, or did they go the full shebang?

So far in North Texas, the following channels in the basic and expanded basic tiers now require a digital set-top box to receive them.

 - ABC Family (Ch. 61)
 - CMT (Ch. 63)
 - C-SPAN2 (Ch. 28)*
 - C-SPAN3 (Ch. 6)*
 - Oxygen (Ch. 73)
 - Style (Ch. 50...has since then moved to Ch. 150)
 - TruTV (Ch. 47)
 - TXCN: Texas Cable News (Ch. 38)
 - KDTN [Daystar TV Network] (Ch. 2...has since then moved to Ch. 350)*
 - Public, Educational, Government, and Leased Access (Chs. 15, 16, 95-99)*

* = Can be accessible by an HDTV with a special QAM tuner (built on or after 2008)
