General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

I'm gearing up for the annual MDA Muscle Walk at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington next Saturday. If y'all can, please make a donation by clicking on the "Make a Muscle, Make a Difference" icon in my signature. I've already did 1/2 a dozen posts on my Facebook months prior, but it seems others' news feeds are cluttered by some other stuff (in other words, got no responses).

General Discussion / Alternative(s) to The Weather Channel
« on: March 26, 2013, 05:01:51 PM »
With the way things are currently going on The Weather Channel, has anyone here found alternatives for 24/7 weather coverage?

As for me I got the following:

 - NOAA Weather/All Hazards Weather Radio - I'm covered with 2 stations in Dallas and Fort Worth, and I got it set to where it can alert me of any severe weather in Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant Counties.

 - The Local AccuWeather Channel on WFAA-TV - For regular TV viewers it's on channel 8.2. For Time Warner Cable customers: channel 371 (and also channel 8.2 for HDTVs directly connected to cable). For Charter customers: channel 101. And there's even live streaming online here. While this station may not have any smooth jazz music playing during local inserts (a rebroadcast of NOAA Weather Radio airs while they run live radar, plus local video forecasts), it's reliable enough.

This morning, WFAA-TV's News 8 Daybreak has played "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" by The Temptations as they're running a "Throwback Thursday" segment at the end of the broadcast...and even better, they've shown my then & now picture I've submitted.

As G4 transitions to Esquire Network, Time Warner Cable in North Texas has made the particular network on basic Channel 67 in digital only format weeks ago.

Skittles commercials are pretty dumb.
I love Skittles, just hate their current commercials.

I got a feeling this won't last long. While I don't condone piracy, what they're doing is VERY stupid, controversial, and communist. :hammer: :club:

I already signed the letter opposing such a bill.

Imagine, if you will, a private dinner with a perfect view of the sunset. Now imagine it all going to "you know where" in a handbasket because Cops with machine guns are involved. While this story has a happy ending, file this whole ordeal under "WHAT THE SERIOUS :censored:?!?!?!"

Another song that made this list is A$AP Rocky's ":censored:'in Problems", At first when this popped up, I was thinking it's probably another rap song about beef between rappers. Come to find out when I was station surfing, it deals with an addiction to sexy women (I'm just gonna leave it at that).

Part of me wants to like it because of the dope beat it has on there, but a part of me already hates it due to the obvious lyrical content.

The radio version.

Crystal's or CiCi's Pizza?
Since Crystal's closed its doors in Irving...CiCi's Pizza. Though the staff of Crystal's did redeem themselves on the pizza on the weekend of their closure.

Vacationing in Los Angeles or San Diego?

Another commercial I now loathe is the latest AutoNation spot. I get it, they're trying to get the word out that our local Bankston Autos in Dallas/Fort Worth is now AutoNation, but it's been (over)played on my local TV stations almost every commercial break. And why are they using a "Ghostbusters" theme?!

Bankston is now AutoNation!

TV Station's Emergency Alert System Hacked, Warns of Montana Zombie Apocalypse

General Discussion / Bogus EAS "Dead Bodies" Message Tramsmitted
« on: February 11, 2013, 06:55:19 PM »
Apparently, someone in Montana was bored to death and decided to recreate a "Walking Dead" scenario by hacking a TV station's Emergency Alert System for the sole purpose of reporting a fake Zombie Apocalypse.

Quote from: Staff of KRTV
Someone apparently hacked into the Emergency Alert System and announced on KRTV and the CW that "dead bodies are rising from their graves" in several Montana counties.

This message did not originate from KRTV, and there is no emergency.

Our engineers are investigating to determine what happened and if it affected other media outlets.
