Local Forecast / Re: TWC Songs you've heard in other places
« on: June 12, 2013, 09:02:29 AM »
As I was going to a friend's graduation in Denton, I heard "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck on their intercom system at Downtown Denton Transit Center. The next day, I heard "Smooth operator" by Greg Adams at my neighborhood Kroger store.

General Discussion / Charitable Events
« on: May 10, 2013, 01:29:52 AM »
Has anyone here taken part of any major charitable events in your area or elsewhere?

Last month on Saturday April 6th was an EPIC day for me. I participated in the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Muscle Walk that morning at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. A $40 donation, plus a chance to take a long walk around Cowboys Stadium to give several people with neuromuscular diseases a fighting chance...that's definitely a fair trade. I also caught up with a friend also named Michael I knew back in college. It was a wonderful experience! :D

To be real honest, I can't even imagine what life would be like if I had muscular dystrophy myself. I wouldn't be able to do much of the major stuff like I'm doing now. Sure, I would get around in a wheelchair, but I wouldn't do much. I'm very thankful to be in a healthy state that I am at now. Additionally, I know 2 friends (Michael who I mentioned before, and Jason who I knew back in middle school) who were diagnosed with said diseases.

This was the 2nd charitable walk/run that I've participated in...with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Dallas on October 2010.

What about the Texas Car Title and Payday Loans commercial. Goes something like:

"I need some CAAAASSHH!
I need some CAAAASSHH!
I need some CASH! He needs some CASH!
I really need...some...CAAAAAAAAAAAAASSHH!"

I've been chuckling at the one Pine-Sol commercial where a lady was trying out the "Dirt Dazzler" gimmick while the Pine-Sol lady goes "Shame, shame, shame."

Pine-SolŪ Dirt Dazzler

"Reach Out I'll Be There" by the Four Tops. I can't stand their singing, they sound drunk
I actually like their version of "Baby I Need Your Lovin'".

Anyways, another song to add: "Stompa" by Serena Ryder (Heard it on my local Adult Alternative stations). I mean seriously..."Clappa your hands, Stompa your feet"? Might as well "Pounda your head". :club:

I don't know if you can count these as music purchases, but I redeemed over a couple dozen free downloads by participating in Coke Zero's March Madness Bracket Challenge. Here's what I got (as most of the music on their designated website is from UMG and EMI):

 - "The Unwritten Letter" by Spyro Gyra
 - "Six Four" by The Rippingtons
 - "Mountain Sound" by Of Monsters and Men
 - "Walk Idiot Walk", "No Pun Intended", and "Tick Tick Boom" by The Hives
 - "Down By the Water" by The Decemberists
 - "Deception" by Miles Davis
 - "Doin' Time" by Sublime
 - "Bridging the Gaps" and "Like That" by The Black Eyed Peas (Some of their ol' school stuff pre-2009)
 - "Intergalactic" by Beastie Boys
 - "You Get What You Give" by New Radicals
 - "Come Close" by Common (feat. Mary J. Blige)
 - "Home" by Phillip Phillips
 - "Stare Into the Sun" by Graffiti6
 - "Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)" by Us3
 - "Say Hey (I Love You)" and "The Sound of Sunshine" by Michael Franti & Spearhead
 - "Orchid" and "Sureptitious" by Jeff Lorber
 - "Rocketeer" by Far East Movement
 - "Jammin'", "Could You Be Loved" and "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley & The Wailers
 - "Take the Long Way Home" and "The Logical Song" by Supertramp
 - "Makes Me Wonder" by Maroon 5
 - "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons

General Discussion / Re: Alternative(s) to The Weather Channel
« on: March 30, 2013, 02:51:10 PM »
I've got the weird answer for this question:  I'm the alternative as I actually can make official forecasts! :P  In all seriousness, I use the internet, the NWS website, and the other forecasters at work to gain their insight and help satisfy my need for weather information.

LOL!! That's one way of doing it: yourself. I had my own weather website via Yahoo!'s Geocities that utilizes TWC's weather magnet and NWS maps & radars (in other words, my own version of Weatherscan). It's too bad mine was closed down in late 2009 when Geocities was merged with Yahoo! Profiles which I can really do nothing much with.
