Everything Else TWC / The TWC Icons Discussion Thread
« on: July 20, 2008, 09:28:54 PM »
I don't know if there was already one here, but I'm gonna go ahead and start it.

This is a thread where we all discuss about The Weather Channel weather icons used on the WeatherSTAR 4000, XL, IntelliSTAR, National feed, and weather.com & its services.

If anybody has questions, comments, and or changes on the icons, feel free to post them. And if anyone wants to request an icon, ask me, Tyler, Al, and/or anyone else that holds the icon sets. Just remember that they're owned by The Weather Channel and TWC Interactive and we ask you to PLEASE DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE THEM.

As some of y'all may know on a topic recently posted here on the "Everything Else TWC" section, the WX icons on weather.com's "Weather On Your Website" program has been modified. And from what "season lover" said, it seems TWC's site may make an icon change itself. We'll see what happens.

It's Official:

Those who are currently using weather.com's Weather On Your Website service, the icons have been modified.

Before:

After:

I didn't mind the change, but I like the before set better.

My weather website currently uses this service.

TWC and your Cable Company / Time Warner to Spin Off Cable Company?
« on: July 06, 2008, 10:56:54 AM »
This was posted by Vernon in TWC Classics.

Quote from: VernonMetcalf
Time Warner is spinning off its cable TV business for $9 billion (according to http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/21/...in4114950.shtml), but Time Warner Cable may have about $23 billion in debt on its books making deals unlikely (according to http://www.investors.com/editorial/IBDArti...;issue=20080527). Because of that possible amount of debt, I'm not sure if that would cause some Time Warner Cable headends in smaller areas including mine to be sold off.

As if divesting its own Warner Music Group (info on Wikipedia) in 2004 wasn't enough...

How many here think this person is gonna survive over 4,000 years? I don't. In fact, he may not even survive the next 40.

WEATHERFORD, Texas (WFAA ABC 8/AP) — A man was sentenced to more than 4,000 years in prison today for sexually assaulting three teenage girls over two years.

A day after finding James Kevin Pope guilty, jurors sentenced him to 40 life prison terms — one for each sex assault conviction — and 20 years for each of the three sexual performance of a child convictions.

At the request of prosecutors, state District Judge Graham Quisenberry ordered Mr. Pope to serve the sentences consecutively, adding up to 4,060 years. He will be eligible for parole in the year 3209, according to the Parker County District Attorney's Office.

OK, why can't they simply just say "LIFE!"?

General Discussion / The CW Network Slowly Fading Out?
« on: June 28, 2008, 02:42:41 PM »
Is it me? Is the current CW affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth (KDAF-TV) changing networks? Or is the CW network slowly fading out after almost 2 years?

Since June 23rd, I couldn't help but noticing their latest commercials ended with the announcer saying "KDAF 33" instead of "CW33"...however, the 'CW33' branding is kept.

General Discussion / FedCon USA Closes Abruptly in Dallas.
« on: June 17, 2008, 08:08:24 PM »
SAD NEWS (to some): FedCon USA, the most highly anticipated convention that opened in Dallas, Texas that was attended by the 10s; has come to an end after a respectable one-day run.

To those who don't know what FedCon is, it's a highly successful sci-fi/fantasy convention that originated from Germany in 1992, originally called "Federation Convention". A similar organization named FedCon USA started their convention on Friday June 13, but there were some snags along the way. FedCon USA died on the vine after a few first hours the next day due to low attendance and disorganization. Attendees are getting refunds as we speak.

According to info on Wikipedia and on TrekToday.com, FedCon Germany disassociated themselves from FedCon USA on January 2008.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although me and my family never went to FedCon USA over the weekend, we went ahead and ordered a couple "F(crossed out)DEDCON USA" T-shirts.

In response to this...travesty...someone has written the spoof of the "Star Trek: Enterprise" theme ("Faith Of The Heart") and called it "Epic Fail Con".

General Discussion / The Insanity Test

A Classic, but well worth posting.

Just take the simple test to see if you're LEGALLY INSANE!

I did well until the last 5 seconds. That counts, right?

At around 4:39 and 4:57AM, Mark Krurnowski's "Wait A Minute" was played on ABC's "America This Morning" weather segments. This wasn't the first Mark Krurnowski song on there. Since early 2004 before Mark appeared on TWC, other songs that were on ABC included:

 - Climbing Green Hills
 - East Coast Cruise
 - Desert Road
 - Taking Flight

If my family computer had a TV tuner card, I would've shown it to y'all.

General Discussion / Cable Channel Sharing
« on: May 19, 2008, 04:17:09 PM »
Does 2 or more cable networks share a same channel in your area?

Here's the timeline for my vicinity.

1992-1999:

24 Prevue Channel [now TV Guide]/Sneak Prevue (5AM-11PM)
24 Playboy TV (11PM-5AM)
72* C-SPAN2 (Weekdays)
72* Bravo (Weeknights and Weekends)

1999-2002:

72* C-SPAN2 (Weekdays)
72* Bravo (Weeknights and Weekends)

After 2002, it was no longer the case.

* = Channel 96 for Cable-ready TVs

TWC Fan Art / Michael's TWC Fan Art Portfolio
« on: May 11, 2008, 12:47:34 AM »
This is where I put most of the TWC Fan Art/emulations from now on...except for weather icons (see my seperate topic).

Anyways, here's my attempt at the "Travel Troubles" segment, utilizing one of the Weather Underground photos, Billy's LDL Warning Bar and Tyler's modified "Strong T-Storm" Icon.

Let me know what you think.

TWC Fan Art / An Earth Day Blackbar?
« on: May 08, 2008, 10:53:47 AM »
I know it's a little late, but what if TWC changed the color of their logo on the Black Bar to Green for Earth Day?

That idea just popped in my head this morning. Using the green TWC logo that was on the main weather.com for Earth Day and the Blackbar with no logo (thanks to Billy (beanboy89)), I just went ahead and got to work. It only took me a few minutes to create this on Photoshop.

General Discussion / Commercials You Loathe
« on: April 25, 2008, 10:48:46 AM »
So what commercials annoy you the most?

Here's my list:

- The latest Progressive Ads that tells all about Progressive Online...in a Grocery Store form ("We have a savings of over $350! We have a savings of over $350!" yes, we heard ya!)
- That "OMG" promotion of "Gossip Girls".
- Countrywide
- Zantrex 3 (Fast talking gibberish and a lot of "Yes")
- Rooms To Go w/ Cindy Crawford (They could've played anything other than Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head")
- "Viva Viagra!"
- The original HeadOn ads
- Verizon: "Can You Hear Me Now?"
- Vonage (with that annoying background music)

General Discussion / Public Transportation
« on: April 16, 2008, 05:16:10 PM »
What public transportation services (if any) serves your city?

Almost all of Dallas County is covered by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (also known as DART). It provides over 120 bus routes including DART On-Call, the "Flex" service, and a few other shuttles, plus 2 light rail lines with a couple more opening up in a few years.

There's also a Commuter rail service called the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) that goes from Dallas to Fort Worth...and yes, my hometown is served by TRE.

The Game Room / Weather Word A-Z
« on: April 06, 2008, 11:55:01 PM »
The rules are simple, just post a weather word (or 2 or more if ya like) in an A-Z form.

Cant think of a weather word in Q, U, X, Z, etc., skip over to the next letter.

Example:

Overcast

Partly Cloudy
________________________________________________________________

To kick things off:

AM Fog

The Game Room / Weather Word Game
« on: April 06, 2008, 11:51:27 PM »
The game goes as follows, post a weather word (or 2-4 words if you like) by starting with the last letter of the recent post.

Example:

Windy Conditions
_________________________________________

Sunny
_________________________________________________________________

So to kick things off:

Severe Weather.
