General Discussion / Is Anyone Having Trouble With Yahoo Mail?
« on: November 21, 2009, 07:51:05 PM »
For some reason throughout the day, everytime I tried to check my Yahoo Mail, I always get an ignoramous "Page cannot be displayed" or "Oops! This link appears to be broken."

Anyone else got the same thing?

General Discussion / WMG Back on YouTube (It's about FREAKIN' Time!!)
« on: September 29, 2009, 02:02:25 PM »
Recent entry from YouTube's Blog (Click here for full article)

Quote from: Chris Maxcy, Director of YouTube Partner Development
Music Licensing: It's complicated. Let's face it. But today all of that is beside the point: we are happy to announce that Warner Music Group (WMG)'s artists are returning home to YouTube. Under this new, multi-year global agreement, you will be able to discover, watch and share Warner music on the site. The partnership covers the full Warner catalog and includes user-generated content containing WMG acts.

It seems my letter to WMG FINALLY broke through.

General Discussion / SyFy (formerly Sci-Fi Channel) to Broaden its Horizons
« on: September 05, 2009, 10:15:59 AM »
As we all know, The Sci-Fi Channel has been rebranded as SyFy. From there on, they're expecting to broaden its horizons including having a talk show (it better be reruns of "Space Ghost Coast To Coast") and having a cooking show. REALLY? A COOKING SHOW on SyFy? Hopefully it's all Bizarre foods my local Sci-Fi club can create for future Halloween Parties. I would much rather have that than "ECW Wrestling" on there.

Even Jimmy Kimmel is talking about it on Thursday Night's episode of his late night show.

To those who are still scrambling to identify certain songs from the November 2006 playlist, I might help y'all along.

Thanks to "Localonthe8s", I've finally identified a few songs: "Tee Time", "Cadiz Sunset" and "Turn The Page"; performed by Kenny Carr.

To listen to samples of those songs, click on the following link: http://www.amazon.com/Turn-the-Page/dp/B0012OB3NQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1248060357&sr=8-3

General Discussion / DTV Transition
« on: June 12, 2009, 04:05:31 PM »
I don't know if there was a topic created for the Digital TV transition videos, but I'll start it off anyways.

Here in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; most of the major TV stations ceased analog transmission today around Noon with a few other stations switching later tonight (minus a few low-powered TVs that don't have a DTV tower).

WFAA-TV's "historic moment" includes an analog feed on the left side with the digital one on the right.

General Discussion / Any Solar Flares Reported?
« on: June 05, 2009, 04:04:44 PM »
Are there any Solar Flares that we're not aware of? Because the signals on Time Warner Cable have been messing up. It's not just The Weather Channel, it's every channel. The reception on each channel if fizzling out almost to the point of going black every 5 to 15 seconds.

Local Forecast / Miles Davis on PBS
« on: June 01, 2009, 12:22:24 AM »
This Tuesday Night at 10:30PM, "The Sound Of Miles Davis" will be airing on KERA-TV (PBS Affiliate) in DFW. This 1/2 hour special shows a 1959 performance by the Miles Davis Quintet (Davis, John Coltrane, bassist Paul Chambers, drummer Jimmy Cobb and pianist Wynton Kelly) best known for "So What?" and "Freddie Freeloader" on the LFs, backed by an orchestra conducted by Gil Evans.

I don't know if it's gonna be airing on your local PBS station, but if it does, check your local listings...knowing that times on each PBS station varies.

Local Forecast / IntelliStar Update - Sound Effects Disabled
« on: March 13, 2009, 02:57:14 PM »
As of March 12, 2009; all IntelliStars no longer have the 36/48 hour forecast sound effects. I was asking the STAR team on TWCC if that was reported an error, and they've told me that they've been disabled  throughout all domestic ISs. Don't know for how long though.

I was trying to access both sites at 9PM CT and all it shows is "Page cannot be displayed" after taking 30 seconds.

A McNuggets "Emergency"

Floridian called 911 three times over McDonald's chicken shortage

FORT PIERCE, Florida (The Smoking Gun) - Angered that her local McDonald's was out of Chicken McNuggets, a Florida woman called 911 three times to report the fast food "emergency." Latreasa Goodman, 27, last Saturday called police to complain that a cashier--citing a McDonald's all sales are final policy--would not give her a refund.

Fear of fire triggers Irving evacuation

By JONATHAN BETZ / WFAA-TV

IRVING, Texas — Fear that a gasoline-soaked building could catch fire led to the evacuation of other buildings and homes near the Plymouth Park Shopping Center in Irving Friday night.

A potentially dangerous concentration of gasoline fumes was detected in a now-vacant building that once housed a Fazio's department store.

Officials shut down power and evacuated dozens of homes and businesses out of fear the building could ignite.

"A fireman came and told us we have to get out," said Emily Escobar. "It's kind of scary."

The evacuation order came after neighboring businesses began calling 911 to complain about the distinctive aroma of gasoline in the area. When emergency crews arrived, they could smell the fumes from hundreds of feet away.

I had many memories of that facility when it was still open as Fazio's...now it's a dormant building for 10 years.

It's a shame to see what's happening right now.

Woman goes on-line - while asleep

From Unexplained Mysteries

Doctors have reported the first ever case of someone using the internet while asleep, after a sleeping woman sent emails to people asking them over for drinks and caviar. It was only when a would-be guest phoned the next day to accept, that she found out what she had done.

The 44-year-old woman, whose case is reported by researchers from the University of Toledo in the latest edition of medical journal Sleep Medicine, had gone to bed at around 10pm, but got up two hours later and walked to the next room.

DMX Adopts Pink Prison Wardrobe

By Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

Looks like Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio has come up with the cure for DMX's addiction to jail. The hip-hop star and repeat offender, like all of Arpaio's other inmates in the Maricopa county jail, must wear pink t-shirts, underwear and socks.
The girlie wardrobe colors caught DMX by surprise. "This is ridiculous, this is disrespectful," DMX said with a sarcastic laugh during an interview with My Fox Phoenix. "Why the pink?"

Arpaio told Fox & Friends he has had the pink policy in place for 10 years with success. He said the inmates were stealing the white underwear so he dyed them pink.

Viacom, Time Warner Cable face midnight deadline

A dispute over programming fees could leave millions of viewers with static where their favorite channels had been.

By Meg James

Time Warner Cable subscribers could lose "SpongeBob SquarePants," "Dora the Explorer" and Jon Stewart at midnight tonight if the cable company fails to agree on a new contract with one of its biggest suppliers.

Viacom Inc. has threatened to pull its programming in a high-stakes showdown over pricing. Nearly 2 million homes in the Los Angeles area that are customers of Time Warner Cable Inc. could lose such Viacom channels as Nickelodeon, MTV, VH-1, Comedy Central, Spike, TV Land and BET.
