TWC and your Cable Company / No Headline Scroll?
« on: May 21, 2018, 12:47:49 PM »
Something I noticed on The Weather Channel as of late. The line above the local conditions/forecasts which usually scrolls news headlines regarding weather events is blank. I know that severe weather alerts can overlap it when events arise and as of this month since the LOT8s changeup, the local ads via our headend scroll on there too. Is it a technical glitch or was it an intentional modification altogether?

General Discussion / WeatherCon 2018
« on: May 13, 2018, 01:47:20 AM »
In late April, I've attended the 3rd annual WeatherCon hosted by WFAA-TV and WBAP News/Talk Radio near Dallas Love Field. Got to see some storm chasers, WFAA and WBAP personnel, an  old civil defense siren up for display, as well as a few panels. But the main highlight was this: a Q&A panel with WFAA's Pete Delkus and WBAP's Brad Barton. (Pardon the shakiness, but here's the vid in its entirety all caught on my smartphone).

Some of you may have heard of comedian and mogul Byron Allen and his Entertainment Studios company, some of you haven't. Today, Allen has announced his intent to purchase The Weather Channel.

At least the channel itself will soon be off the hands of the NBCUniversal/Blackstone/Bain consortium. Will we see some improvements like the return of live 24/7 weather?

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Glitching on Grapevine-Irving-Lewisville IS2XD
« on: January 29, 2018, 12:24:40 AM »
In the past couple days, I notice that the IntelliStar 2 XD glitches on the Now/Current Conditions screen as the LOT8s begin (it would glitch to the national feed screen). Aside from that and the times that the voiceover doesn't finish the text forecast, everything else is alright.

Provider: Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable)
Channel: 37 / 211
STAR type: IS2 XD
Local weather ID: unknown
Cities served: Grapevine, Irving, Lewisville

I'm not sure if anyone at TWC Today heard on Facebook, but some of you may remember James Brock (a.k.a. thegrudge58). According to this news article, he was murdered. A suspect is already taken into custody and charged. The investigation is still ongoing.

If this is inappropriate in any way, feel free to take it down. I just want to pass along the word--painful as it seems.

TWC and your Cable Company / Layer3 TV Cable
« on: May 09, 2017, 05:12:23 PM »
Just recently, Layer3 TV has started operations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Those that don't know what Layer3 TV is, it's a new cable company based in Schaumburg (outside of Chicago) providing all channels in high-definition (HD). Included in the lineup is The Weather Channel. Though it is unknown if they have any IntelliStar 2 units or if they'll acquire them.

TWC and your Cable Company / VZ FiOS dropped TWC
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:09:30 AM »
Three days ago, I got an email from my friend Ryan saying that his DFW FiOS IntelliStar is out (see topic posted on the STAR Tech Support section)

So far, it's day 3 and the IS is still out. Out of curiosity, any FiOS customers in markets other than Dallas/Fort Worth having the same issue? And is Weatherscan still operating?

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / DFW FiOS IntelliStar down
« on: March 06, 2015, 09:46:54 PM »
I just got an email from my friend Ryan stating that the DFW FiOS IntelliStar is currently down and only the national forecasts are shown. In the past, this IntelliStar has had timing and lagging issues. Is it possible that DFW FiOS customers are getting a new IntelliStar replacement or is it temporarily deactivated for repairs?

Provider: Verizon FiOS
Headend: Dallas/Fort Worth
Channel: 119
Local WX ID: 26822

Hi. My Intellistar that serves Grapevine, Irving (my home city), and Lewisville is having LDL issues. Throughout the day, it was showing the scrolling local time & temperature next to the newsfeed as normal. But the rest of the LDL shows national forecasts. Could y'all please look into this? Thanks!

The LOT8s also cues in as normal.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / IS #22105 Not Working
« on: June 10, 2014, 01:05:33 PM »
I tuned to The Weather Channel and saw the national LDL, thinking it's another typical miscue of the Intellistar for Grand Prairie, Irving, & Lewisville. But when we got to the LOT8s, I saw that the IS is not working at all. Please look into this. Thanks!

Headend: Time Warner Cable
Local WX ID: #22105

Fort Worth Councilman Joel Burns, nationally known for his efforts to stop bullying in schools, sent a tweet to The Weather Channel Monday morning. The response he received set off a storm with Twitter viewers across the U.S.

To be fair, Fort Worth is a part of the DFW area. What does one expect? Though TWC does need to add more photos including other major cities. Not just the known ones (Dallas) but also its nearby (Fort Worth) counterpart(s) as well.

Everything Else TWC / WFAA-TV/Dallas Talks About TWC.
« on: October 25, 2013, 06:30:18 PM »
The anchors of WFAA-TV's morning news show "News 8 Daybreak" were discussing The Weather Channel during one of their broadcasts. They first talked about its original purpose. And then finally, Ron Corning and Cynthia Izaguirre said something we loyal fans of TWC have been saying all along, it has veered off-course with 'reruns of "Twister" and "Big Tips Texas" (that's an MTV show). Basically, they made a point. LOL!

Local Forecast / Joe Sample Hospitalized
« on: October 23, 2013, 11:33:58 PM »
Earlier this evening, I found out via Facebook that Joe Sample, best known for "Carmel", "Oasis", "Miles of Blue (Blue Miles)" and many others is currently hospitalized due to an unexpected illness. Here's the latest post from the artist's management on his official Facebook page:

Quote
Hello all, we (management) are posting on behalf of Joe:

Due to an unexpected illness, the “Joe Sample Trio, with Special Guest - Randy Crawford,” will be unable to perform on October 25th, at the Paramount Theatre, Oakland, CA, as previously advertised.

Mr. Sample was recently hospitalized with what appears to be a severe case of pneumonia. A surgical procedure to remove a build up of fluids in his lung was performed, and Mr. Sample remains hospitalized. Doctors have advised Mr. Sample to undergo an extended period of convalescence before he will be able to resume his professional schedule.

Mr. Sample is unavailable for comment due to the aforementioned “procedure.” Ms. Crawford had this to say: “Our hearts go out to Joe and wish him a speedy and healthy recovery so that we can return to performing together ASAP. I was so looking forward to performing in Oakland at the Paramount. It has been way too long since I’ve visited our fans in the Bay Area, and I love the Paramount. Hopefully we can reschedule something as soon as Joe has recovered.”

General Discussion / Charitable Events
« on: May 10, 2013, 01:29:52 AM »
Has anyone here taken part of any major charitable events in your area or elsewhere?

Last month on Saturday April 6th was an EPIC day for me. I participated in the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Muscle Walk that morning at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. A $40 donation, plus a chance to take a long walk around Cowboys Stadium to give several people with neuromuscular diseases a fighting chance...that's definitely a fair trade. I also caught up with a friend also named Michael I knew back in college. It was a wonderful experience! :D

To be real honest, I can't even imagine what life would be like if I had muscular dystrophy myself. I wouldn't be able to do much of the major stuff like I'm doing now. Sure, I would get around in a wheelchair, but I wouldn't do much. I'm very thankful to be in a healthy state that I am at now. Additionally, I know 2 friends (Michael who I mentioned before, and Jason who I knew back in middle school) who were diagnosed with said diseases.

This was the 2nd charitable walk/run that I've participated in...with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Dallas on October 2010.
