Can you add satellite to that list?

I'd take the satellite LF with the graphics package used from roughly June 2004 right up to the big redesign in August 2005.

Wow, that video was impressive. With the exception of the background, it hasn't really changed at all. I really hope it stays for TWC HD Relaunch and doesn't turn into some piece of crap (as you can see, I'm very, VERY negative when it comes to big changes).

What confuses me is why the other OCMs used those terrible still image radars instead of skytracker.

btw, does anyone know when skytracker debuted? I first saw it in March 2004 when I started to watch TWC. Cantore was the only guy who would use it at a consistent basis back then.

And how come no one ever presents it using the computer these days? I remember back on Evening Edition where Cantore would take the red skytracker mouse, zoom in with the red zoom box, and even pan around rather than using it up in front of the TV.

Thanks. :)

As you can see, it is mostly derived from late 2004 and early 2005.

For satellite viewers:

When TWC launches in HD, will SD viewers still get the current satellite local forecast, or will everybody have to stick with some new, crappy satellite STAR they're gonna release?

Also, I really, REALLY hope they don't they don't release some new crappy skytracker which looks like this:

10:1 they do. I really, really hate when OCMs twirl radars around in 260° angles, tilt them back, rotate it to throw your eyes off, etc. I'm looking at you Carl Parker, Kelly Cass, Adam Berg, and other OCMs that love to blind our eyes by flipping skytracker upside down.

Wait, I could've sworn I remember a few David Becker songs on that list too, such as "Time Has Fun".

I know there was a graphics package before that one. It was in the same format but:

There are no icons seen on the regional forecasts.
The backgrounds on the metro forecasts look like they got painted by a 5 year old.

What came before this one?

What about that satellite forecast (1998ish) that showed the radar/satellite loops/temps/morning lows/highs for each region? How long did this one last?

160
And I'd also remember back in July 2004. Whenever we went to my mom's friend's house, I'd sit in front of her TV and watch TWC for 5 hours straight, and never saw a 6 region radar/satellite.

Those were the times.

Also, does anyone remember when this graphics package was debuted? I know it got discontinued in June 2004, but I don't know when it started:

161
Victor: I have no clue. I guess this is what happens when you're extremely bored.

At mike: I don't think so, as I remember this from the summer of 2004. Your Intellistar Error videos from June and July show 4 regions instead of 6, while the December LF you has shows 6 regions.

Local Forecast / Wanna help me with a satellite local forecast timeline?
« on: February 02, 2008, 01:08:04 PM »
I found a timeline similar on Intellistar's Wikipedia page, but there wasn't a whole lot of info relating to the satellite local forecasts. You can add to it as needed, and even the tiniest changes can be added.

I'll start out:

June 2004:

-The graphics are updated for the entire forecast. This includes the removal of the current conditions from the metro forecasts.

July 2004:

-The LDL is added to TWC for satellite viewers, specifically DirecTV at this time. It cycles through the sky/temperature conditions, airport delays, and forecasts for all of the cities seen on the "3 day forecast" segment.

September/October 2004:

-The south central, northwest, and southwest radar/satellite loops are added to the local forecasts.
-I'm not sure on this, but wasn't Houston and Dallas/Ft. Worth added to the metro forecasts at the beginning at this time?

August 2005:

-A whole new graphics package for the satellite local forecast. This includes the addition of more cities on the metro forecasts (Minneapolis, Orlando, Miami, Denver, Phoenix, Sacramento, Seattle)

September 2006:

-The satellite LDL is added to TWC for Dish Network viewers.

December 2006:

-Icons are replaced with newer ones on the satellite local forecast, as with the Intellistar

NOT SURE ABOUT THE FOLLOWING: (I believe this was sometime between the redesign in August 2005 to December 2005)

-Additional cities are added to the LDL that are not seen on the 3 day forecasts (Omaha, Honolulu, Albuquerque, and I can't think of any others at the top of my head)

I like the one with the guy and girl having lunch on a spring/summer day, seen in 2004 and 2005.

164
2003-mid 2005.

Except with the user of skytracker much higher than it was back then.

165
XL.

Otherwise, I'd put the satellite local forecast on my cable system.
