Local Forecast / Re: New LDL
« on: April 02, 2010, 03:06:37 PM »
It seems to me like this is TWC's way of "forcing" the new graphics on the legacy STARs (the XL, at least). They know that the XL is much too old and outdated to receive any sort of graphics updates, so they just remove the presence of the LDL. I strongly disagree with the XL LDL being turned off, and it will never cease to amaze me how ignorant TWC is... I know a lot of people who are lucky enough to see the XL have complained.

The power supply probably went. It probably overheated since you kept your computer on so much and recording TWC constantly. Replacements aren't too expensive, ranging from about $30-$40 and up.
Yeah, I didn't think it was too expensive to do that. I've messed with the power supply before, so I could probably handle replacing it myself. Problem is, I don't know if the Power Supply is all that's wrong. Gotta wait for my dad to get back from near Benton Harbor to go out to Staples and have them look at it.

On a somewhat related note... anyone else confused if it's Friday or Saturday? I have had to remind myself at least 20 times today that it was Friday.

So for the past couple hours, I had been smelling the burning plastic/electrical fire smell. I kept going around my room, checking my laptop, my lamp, the fan I have running, etc, and couldn't figure out where the smell was coming from. Last hour, my desktop computer froze 3 times, and subsequently, I had to shut it off and restart it. While I was doing work. The 3rd time I just gave it a couple minutes since I figured it may be slow, and then it went to a blue screen. No, not the BSOD, since it was a solid blue screen, that flashed and moved between several shades of blue. After checking a possibly faulty connection (which is not the case, but I had to check) between my computer and my monitor, I shut it all off. I then checked the desktop computer itself, and traced the burning smell to the power supply, the large box at the top of the computer right where I plug the power cord into. The thought has come to my mind that something may have shorted out. Thoughts?

Can someone post a screencap of the new sunrise weather lower thirds? I've yet to wake up and see them.
Sure, I'll sift through my recordings. Just a minute :)

Edit: Here are a few. Not much to the lower thirds, really.

Can anyone tell me what the name of the song was that played at :18 on WUWA this morning? I have heard it countless times before, but I just can't place a name on it.

Jackie Blue - The Ozark Mountain Daredevils
Thanks. I'll upload a clip of it later on.

Exact opposite here.  Too many kids would take off for noon mass and not come back, so attendance was piss-poor the rest of the day....so they've forced it off now.  Originally it was a built-in snow day.
Exactly the same here. It was pointless to have school today... too few people would come. As it was, Thursday was a quiet day at school. Nonetheless, the only problem is that it feels like a Saturday today.

Also, check this out. It is so far above average in the northeastern Great Lakes (around Ontario), that they don't even have dark enough shading to symbolize how far above average the temps are.

Joseph, you were the first person to make a comment on any of my videos, you helped me get into this TWC fan community, and you're the first friend I've ever known who's also a TWC fan. It is a true honor to wish you a happy birthday!

Hey, join the club! But wow, that's a landslide record

In retrospect, I would think it could display a record high set for today, and another possible one for tomorrow.

I don't follow you exactly. I think its probably limited to 1 screen

Well, I was sort of using the same analogy that comes with the weather bulletins... have more than 3, and it uses a second page. Wouldn't it be possible, if the Intellistar showed a record that was set today, but also had to show one that was in store for the following day?

Speaking of the record high screen... is it possible for the record high screen to have two pages? In retrospect, I would think it could display a record high set for today, and another possible one for tomorrow.

If the Intellistar can read the word "lakeshore" when it is used in the phrase "cooler near the lakeshore", then why can't it read lakeshore when it is part of the phrase "Lakeshore Flood Warning"?
There's probably no audio file in the system for lakeshore flood warnings.
The Intellistar combines phrases... hence why you sometimes hear very brief pauses between some words that you and I could normally say connected. For instance, "very warm". I know the Intellistar has the narration for flood warning (as I've heard it for the Flash Flood Warning tone, and "Flood Warning" is how it reads "Lakeshore Flood Warning").

I heard hazy skies on the intellistar once back in 2004. That lakeshore narration is neat too, I wonder if something similar exists for ocean coastal areas too?

Wow, it feels so great not having a traffic map. I get to see my regional maps again! :D
Hehe, enjoy :P

A couple of LF related things I don't get here.
If the Intellistar can read the word "lakeshore" when it is used in the phrase "cooler near the lakeshore", then why can't it read lakeshore when it is part of the phrase "Lakeshore Flood Warning"?

Also, now that I'm seeing (and recording) the record high screen on 22842... I notice it uses simply "Lansing" as the site name in the wording... yet the almanac title is "Lansing Capital Reg. Int'l Arpt". I thought the Intellistar pulls the site name from the almanac title?

Whoa, after the LF... it looks like the video wall popped up, with TWC [HD] in the middle of it. After about 15 seconds, it goes to another 20 seconds of Trammell.

Oh my god, I stepped out of school into a sauna! I haven't experienced 75 in too long :P

Capital Region Int'l Arpt has officially hit 78, beating the record of 75 set in 1946. w00t!
