Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion
« on: March 29, 2009, 07:46:01 PM »
Did they reduce the number of beeps for a Severe Thunderstorm Warning crawl from 7 to 4? Both warnings I've had only had 4 beeps...
That's odd...
Did you hear this at all?:
3 Beeps, then "A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for your area", then 3 more beeps?

Satellite LF at 6:48 PM EDT...and now the LDL refuses to cue! Leave it to the IntelliCrap...its been doing the LDL crap for the past week or so
Yeah, that is weird how many times it has been happening so much. But my Intellistar is just fine (if you ignore the background and the icons, but that is a separate argument). The LF worked properly, and the LDL cued.

Watch out Billy, theres a tornado warning in your area.

I just checked it out, and WOW, that is one nasty cell with pink returns on the radar. Details can be found at http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=PAZ066&warncounty=PAC071&firewxzone=PAZ066&local_place1=Lancaster+PA&product1=Tornado+Warning

Everything Else TWC / Re: The TWC Icons Discussion Thread

The TWC Mac Dashboard widget still has them at 32x32. It's also a veritable time warp.
Yeah, there are traces of the old icons left in quite a few places. It is a relief to know that TWC still has the old icons on a computer, so they could revert back if it ever came to that.

I just learned an interesting fact from Carl...
1 inch of rain over 1 acre of land is equal to about 30,000 gallons of water.   I did not know that!
This is one of the reasons I like watching him... random but interesting facts

Is he ok? His voice seems to have deepened and he is not putting any emotion into anything he says. Perhaps he caught what Mike did?  :dunno:

I always go with NWS.
Same, their forecast is right. We're suposto get strong thunderstorms later in the afternoon.
I'll buy that. I am just so used to The Weather Channel as opposed to the NWS. Anyway, I stayed up until shortly after 5 AM last night, so I did not get much sleep. I watched some heavy rain move through, but that darned HiRAD never seems to report heavy precipitation or a low visibility for me. Too bad Lansing is directly under the track of the low, because it is like an inside out sandwich. Severe weather to the southeast, and snow to the northwest. I sure wish I could get at least one. Oh well, my time will come soon enough. I just have to wait my turn  :hmm:

I wouldn't be surprised to hear Pacific Wind next month.
I sure hope so! I would also hope to hear at least one of those Moby songs I have listed, and it would never hurt to hear "Breathe In". *feels optimism increasing*

*changing the subject upon Ana's request* ;)
March ends in just three days for everyone here who couldn't wait for this month to end.  What are you all looking forward to doing in April?
The April 2009 TWC music playlist, of course.
That, a better school experience, warmer temps, more stormy days (:D) and of course, SPRING BREAK!
Same here! I hope they put at least one or two of my wanted songs on the playlist in April:
1) Breathe In by 7 and 5
2) Winged Mammal Theme by REM
3) Pacific Wind by Ryan Farish
4) Sunday by Moby
5) Hurry Home by Craig Chaquico
6) From The Sky by Ryan Farish
7) Riders of the Ancient Winds by Craig Chaquico and Russ Freeman
8) Layla by Derek and the Dominoes
9) Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd
10) Smooth Sailing by Airborne
11) Feeling Good by Steve Oliver
12) Rushing by Moby
13) Homeward Bound by Patrick O'Hearn
14) Guyute by Phish
15) It's Just... Talk by Pat Metheny

I was also planning on going to my uncle's house next weekend to see what star unit he has (in Yale, MI, just a few miles NW of Port Huron), but he has Dish  :wall:
So, I am unsure what I am doing that weekend.  :dunno:

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion
« on: March 28, 2009, 03:08:42 PM »
Does anyone know how 'scattered strong thunderstorms' would show up on the XL during the daypart and week ahead screens? I ran into this problem yesterday while creating a video for Gulfport. Since the XL spells out 'scattered' during the daypart forecast, and 'strong thunderstorms' already takes up 2 lines, how would it show up?
During the daypart, "Sct'd Strong" would appear on the first line followed by Thunderstorms as usual on the bottom line.
During the week ahead, "Sct'd" displays on the first line, followed by "Strong" on the second line and "Storms" on the bottom/3rd line.

Hope this helps!

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Is anyone here using the Notify! service from TWC?  I've seen it advertised a lot over the years, so I was just curious.

well, to be honest, I don't really need to use the service because NOTHING happens in El Centro (where I live).
Occasionally some interesting weather happens here, but I am just about always at the computer with my TV on when something does end up happening, even if it is overnite. So, it is an extra few dollars a month I don't need to spend.
