General Discussion / Re: Swine Flu
« on: May 01, 2009, 04:51:52 PM »I think this whole controversy over the name is just stupid and unnecessary. The name is what it is. I don't eat any meat from pigs (except ham once a year on Christmas or possibly again on Thanksgiving) anyway, so the name does not bother meOkay, H1N1 is just the normal flu, which is why it is being called H1N1. Also, normal flu cases ALWAYS get sent in for testing, so therefore, it's just the normal flu. Health Departments are shutting/threatening to shut down schools because of the normal flu. BS
I am sorry, but this is not the normal flu. Sure, it may be a little less threatening than the media or whoever is saying it is, and it could be much worse. It is NOT KNOWN. This is a NEW disease, and some of you on here are not understanding that, and I am sure more and more doctors are learning something new about it every day. This is probably why the name has been switched from "swine" to "H1N1". Obviously this has to be bigger than the normal flu. Is it being taken out of proportion? Sure, in some cases it probably is.
IMO, the name change was not smart. It implies that this is the H1N1 virus, which it is, except not THE H1N1 virus we're familiar with. I think its name should reflect its difference from our run of the mill flu. Regardless of what the pork industry wants.
