Ideally anything WPA2 is best. However, some hardware/software is not compatible. If it's a Wireless G device, WPA2 is best.
So, either of the bottom two options then?

Well, I am making my network here a secured network (which I was asked not to, but I hav no idea who else could be using my network). Which of the following 5 options should I chose as to what type of security I place on the network?

Security Options
None
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
WPA-PSK [TKIP]
WPA2-PSK [AES]
WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]

I did. I just reset the router and nothing changed. Perhaps I am getting worked up over something that is not that big of a deal. Should I be concerned that my laptop and desktop are sharing the same IP address?
They're most likely not. You're looking at your INTERNET IP addresses. You're computer's local IP addresses should be different. To check on this, on BOTH computers (assuming you're running XP): Right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon in the notification area (the icon that looks like a monitor with some waves to the right of it) and click Status. Click the "Details" tab, and the local IP addresses of the computers should be displayed there. They should be different.
I am running Vista on both PCs. Any different instructions?

Well, my laptop notified me this morning that the IP addresses are the same, and yes, I am looking at the IP address that shows up with my posts.
Read my post socool. ;)

Laptop test

Desktop
Works
I'm not sure you understand what I am doing here. I am trying to see if my laptop and desktop have the same IP addresses still.

Desktop

EDIT: Still have the same IP address on both PCs. Does it change anything to move either computer only inches or feet? The laptop connects wirelessly and the desktop connects to the router through ethernet.
Are you sure you're not referring to the IP address that appears on your posts?

Are you at the same house? If so, that's why. You're still using the same connection.
The computer it self (not the internet connection) should have it's own "local" IP address. No two computers on the local network should have the same IP address.

socool, the easiest/quickest way to fix that is just reset your router (power off and back on again). That'll cause it to re-assign IP addresses to the computers and they shouldn't get the same IP address again.
That's what I had always thought. Let me try to reset the router.

Now on my desktop 2 feet away

EDIT: Just as I suspected, my laptop and desktop have the exact same IP address. Why is this?

I got a notification today on my laptop that my laptop has the exact same IP address as another computer on the network (we use a router in this house which is in my room). I am suspecting the matching IP address is on my desktop computer, 2 feet away (at this point). Does exact positioning (by foot or so) matter when the IP address is determined? Would my IP address on this laptop change if I go to a different location or network?
