General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

Well around 1 AM, I drank my first monster Energy drink ever. Never expected a rapid heartbeat like that. Thing is, because I can't figure out how to program recordings with this tuner (nor do I think it is that reliable anyway), I have to be in front of it for all recordings. I never sleep well at hotels anyways. But man, I can not imagine drinking several each day like some people do. That scared me a bit.

Wow, I'm surprised Traverse City has an XL! :o Alpena has less people and they have an intellistar..
Population really has nothing to do with the version of STAR used. It has to do with the cable company and headend itself. I've been in some very rural places in VA, NC, and SC, most of which had IntelliStars.
True, and adding to that point I found that Intellistar in South Haven... when the city only has about 5,000 people. But this is pushing boundaries. Traverse City itself only has 15,000 people, but the greater area has over 142,000. There must be an Intellistar downtown.

General Discussion / Re: Oil Slick In The Gulf

I wasn't talking about throwing more money than is currently being used on the process altogether. I meant that the money that is being wasted on stopping the oil at the shore can be spent for developing solutions for more effectively stopping the oil at the source much sooner. Stopping it at the shore and cleaning it up does not mean it can't keep coming or go elsewhere.

Well here's what I meant. As Jesse said, yeah, you can clearly see that the text is there, being that the text is black and it's on a faint blue/white background. But that's where the user-friendliness stops. It's all black. Even I (being someone who notices even the slightest of details) inadvertently pass my eye over everything from time to time. In the old days, you had the forecast title/CC site name/almanac title in yellow, with all other numbers/text in white.

I've heard talk about the possibility of this oil getting caught in the Gulf Stream, though things are up for change at any moment. Creating blocks at the shore is not an effective shore-up. It's wasting valuable time, and not to mention money, that could be used to make the capping of the oil pipe itself go much faster.

Honestly, weatherscan seems boring to me. I'm all for a separate channel for only weather, but having OCMs walk the viewer through along with local forecasts every few minutes is just fine.

Not exactly what I was referring to, Jesse.

While on the subject of fonts, maybe they could make them so that they are user-friendly- the forecast title/CC site name(s), the numbers, and the forecast data on the text based are all black. This was one reason I prefered the previous background the Intellistar had.

So glad the seemingly eternal search is over Patrick! Adding to your optimism, Comcast gives "new" customers a much cheaper rate for the first year of service. For almost two years, my dad got away with a cheaper rate because he kept moving.

Also, the advanced class (TV Media) had our first meeting this morning, as it was decided who would do what for the end of the year announcements (pretty much a precursor to next year's announcements). They're done after the seniors are gone (their last day this year is a week from this Thursday). I am of course going to do my own weather segment on it, and everyone there knew I would :P
I will make sure to ask to be the one who uploads it to youtube on the Vision's channel. Either way, we're looking at most likely either next Friday (the 4th) or the following Monday (the 7th) for carrying it out. I will make sure to share the video with all :)

SVU has been renewed for the 10-11 season. The original L&O is going to be replaced by another L&O that takes place in my favorite city: Los Angeles.
Good, glad to hear that first sentence. NBC just aired a season finale for SVU. I knew about the second sentence there... hopefully they choose a better cast for the show which debuts in the fall.

So I'm watching the series finale of Law and Order. Can't even begin to follow it, and the cast has changed drastically since the seasons that are syndicated on TNT. I'm hoping this means that SVU is not cancelled as well, but I doubt it.
