Well, I just got back from Staples where I dropped off my desktop computer. It was once again rebooted, but this time it does not get past the blue HP screen. I hope to be getting updates soon, but it may be a few daze before I get it back.

I thought HP computers were pretty good as several of my friends had no problems with them, but Kyle's rant and Aaron's current struggles are making me think twice about ever getting one in the future.  Good luck with your computer issues, Aaron.
Thanks, Patrick

Patrick, that used to be my thinking as well. HP computers usually suit my needs when it comes to graphics and features, and they are always a great deal with what comes with them. But these continual issues are changing my mind.

I hope to be taking my desktop into Staples today.

Ouch, that sounds awful. I never knew HP could have issues like that.

As well as it works when it works, my HP desktop has really given me A LOT of trouble since I bought it, brand new, in August 2007. I have put at least half of the original worth of the computer into fixing it since. Up until February 2008, there was an issue with bad ram, and the computer would freeze multiple times a day, not to mention the BSOD that also occurred multiple times a day as well. It contracted multiple viruses at the beginning of this year, and I had to have it reformatted yet again this past February. Now all of a sudden, it appears as though the motherboard has failed, which I would imagine the replacement to is not going to be cheap. I am still paying off my laptop, so I don't have the money for another month to pay for this. I am not getting high marks from HP due to all of this. I'm fortunate though to have a laptop to use while this is ongoing and an external hard drive where I do all of my file operations in to begin with.

Motherboard failure or Hard-Drive reformatting?

Yea just one of those random flukes. I looked it up but couldn't find much you could do in your situation.
No idea how it happened so quickly though. My computer was fine before I shut it down 45 minutes before the issue began.

Did anyone catch the song that played at 5:57 AM EDT? It did not sound like a playlist song. Due to issues with my desktop, I was not able to record it.

Oh yes then by all means if its expensive do try and get it repaired. Hope you get it working soon
Thanks for at least trying to help with this. I suspected that it was a motherboard failure, but wasn't sure.

A few other steps you might try.
1. Have you installed any updates to your BIOS? If so try to roll them back. If not try and see if there is a new version you can update to.
2. Unplug your computer, hold the power button down for 10secs. Restart. See if that helps at all
3. Try cleaning the computers ports with some compressed air.

If this is a cheap computer, my recommendations would be to buy another cheap/decent PC and just swap the hard drive out. You wont loose any data. Otherwise you can attempt to replace the motherboard if you know how or hire someone to repair it.
I keep taking too long to update my post lol. It was a very expensive computer I bought brand new in August 2007. I am planning on taking it to Staples, so I can have them replace the motherboard, but the issue here is coming up with the money for it. As I mentioned, I have put in a ridiculous amount of money to this computer since I have had it.

I suspect you have a short in one of the connectors. This isnt very good. If your computer is old enough to have dedicated keyboard and mouse inputs, go to your bios and disable your USB ports. Use a keyboard and mouse with those connections if you have one. You likely will need a new motherboard

How old is this computer?
Well, we got rid of our wired mice and keyboards years ago. I bought the computer brand new in August 2007. Martin, I am not that tech savy :P

Thanks for the help though, I will give the second option a try.

What USB devices are plugged in to your computer?
Well normally, the external hard drive, wireless receiver for the wireless mouse and keyboard, and the printer. I removed them all, and the issue is still ongoing.

Well, I hope this is okay to start this topic here.

Anyway, I am having a major problem with my desktop computer. Halfway through the rebooting process, I get a weird message that appears:

Quote
Warning!!! USB Device over current detected!!!
Please remove over-current USB device!!!
System will shutdown in         seconds!!04
The 04 is a coutdown that starts at 20.

My desktop was fine at 6:45 PM EDT. It was acting slow, so I shut it down through the start menu. As soon as I press the power on button, it shut down as soon as I turned it on.

I called the Staples location a couple miles over, and long story short, a waste of a phone call got the guy I talked to for 30 seconds to say it sounds like a hardware issue. Mike brought it up to me that it could be a motherboard failure, which may be the case.

Anyone else know what could be going on?

I bought this desktop brand new in August 2007, and it has had numerous issues since. I have put at least half of the original worth of the computer into fixing it, including $100 into reformatting it twice.
