The big thing about the original icons is how simple and straightforward they were. Very easy to tell intensity differences, and yes, there was a strong storms set.

So three years ago today, the rather disrespected weather icons we see today debuted...
Wow, I see you beat me to mentioning it. But yeah, I will never forget the morning I turned on my TV and first saw them...

Hmm, I haven't heard any buzzing of that sort. I suppose I could look through my clip this morning.

A chief meteorologist is the meteorologist in charge right? If so, this would indeed be a better job for him.
Yes, the "head" of sorts

I don't wish people would stop rating my latest videos poorly

Anyone want to guess when the Christmas playlist will start? I'd have to guess this coming Monday (December 14th).
I would assume it starts 10 daze before Christmas (which in this case would be Tuesday, the same day TWC is going digital here).

Well, I am officially screwed. I took the HD into a computer place in Frandor, and they couldn't get it to work either. The only option I have is to spend near a grand to have a state of the art company look at it. I was told that the freezer option most likely won't work for me, and I would have to let it thaw for a couple daze, rather than take it out and try to get it to work right away.

Well, I would try it, but I'm nervous about causing even further damage that would indeed make me screwed. Patrick, can you find one or two of these articles? I'll be looking into the cost of taking the drive apart and stealing the data off that way, but it does get pricey. Staples charges $50 for the job (they say it only goes up to 10 GB, but they have backed up at least 500 GB of my stuff in only two times). But again, Staples can't find the drive even in their restoration software.

Aaron, most of the articles came from tech forums with opinions from various users, but some people have found it to be successful.  Here's one thread where you see mixed opinions about it:  http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7591_102-0.html?threadID=245494

I would advise trying to get the data by other means first since using the freezer will not cure the drive at all but only allow you a brief amount of time to access it and back up the data.  Furthermore, there's no guarantee that the freezer will work with your drive.  Yes, it can damage the drive further if you do it too much, which is why I say this option is truly a last resort.

Yeah, I will look around to see who can do it for the lowest price. I am very skeptical about it, and I am NOT in the position to push myself further in the hole.

Well for now, all you can do is wait and see. If you do indeed get a ticket, there's no reason you can't take it to court.

Lake effect snow always accumulates here, no matter how intense the snow is or how long it maintains a high intensity.

Really? A freezer?
It's indeed a last resort move, but I've seen articles supporting this idea.  If you put the disk in the freezer for several hours, the drive can work for a little bit when you take it out and try to access it.  If it dies before you can get all the data, just stick it back in the freezer for a longer time and try again.  You should stick the disk in a plastic zip-lock bag to prevent condensation while it's in the freezer.  Heat and moisture are the two biggest enemies to any drive or electrical device.

OMG, I'm screwed. The portable HD I bought for my laptop, where I moved the videos I recorded in about a dozen locations, is not readable. Any ideas on what I can do?
Is it a physical drive error? If so then you are likely screwed. If not its just a matter of getting the computer to read it. Does the drive make any odd or rhythmic clicking noises?
Yes, it is believed to be a physical error. I took it into Staples, and after searching for the drive on special software they have, they told me it could be that something got loose inside the drive and scratched the disk. They told me I can have someone mehcanically take the thing apart and steal the files off that way. Not sure if that works though.
