General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove
« on: October 14, 2011, 07:35:26 AM »
Seems I'm having the same problems as everybody else. I don't really get it much on big tests, but it's the little quizzes I have to worry about. I have many 40's and 50's because of test anxiety - I just blackout on all the info I know. I got an 80 on a spelling/vocab quiz because I blacked out on one answer, which consequently led to three others. My teachers are of no help, our principal is being a flake right now, and my mom has helped me as much as she can. I've been anxious and nervous for my whole life - I think I was born anxious (joke).

Aside from school, I'm excited to announce that tomorrow will officially be the opening of our winter division - taking the same place of the tropics. We are making a new subdomain (winter.skywarnal.com), as well. We so far have two forecasters (myself and Ben Appleby, the Office Coordinator of West Central ALWX). We're trying to recruit some people to write for different divisions, so that means we only need about three more people, considering we only are writing for the 48 State CONUS. If you are interested, email me here or here.

Finally, I have a new small emulation I'm announcing that will only be a one-time effort. Afterwards, I'm working on the big one for winter. Anyone have location suggestions or emulation ideas? I'll be accepting these until November 1.

I don't have any strikes, but I have several videos that are muted or blocked in certain countries.

« on: October 11, 2011, 09:22:16 AM »
Okay, I've been seeing this for months now. On the eight-location/two-page CC's, several locations never are reporting properly. These locations are
  • Fort Rucker, AL
  • Marianna, FL
  • Opp, AL

Often when these stations are out, it will either state that there is "No Report Available" or just be blank. I understand these are reporting station issues, but what is the point of having those stations on there if they never are reporting? This may seem like a request (and it isn't), but I think new reporting stations should be programmed in. Some locations, like Fort Rucker, have several reporting stations. Fort Rucker has KHEY (Hanchey AAF, down), KOZR (Ozark), and KLOR. I know Cairns AAF has a station, but I don't remember the ASOS for it.

so both 2.53Ghz systems are decieving? that's why I chose between those 2 (with intel processors). also I have 2 other cpus that run on AMD and my tuner doesn't work on them.

I knew I was forgetting something.
Compatibility.
Many devices and software will not work on AMD or 64bit systems. Why? The computer is too fast for them. I don't go for either AMD or Intel, they're both good hardware providers. Get what you need is my philosophy.

Aside from this conversation, I have a feeling I might record some LF videos soon... but they won't be uploaded until after next weekend when I get some Intellistar and Weatherscan videos.

Does anyone think one of these computers are good for their price? i'm debating because i want to have a compatible computer for my WinTv 950Q tuner.

Dell or HP both $429.99

Personally I think its worth paying a little bit more for a system with an i5 cpu. It would handle your tuner better as well

I'm not quite an expert with AMD CPU's/processors, but I do know that AMD is known to have less system crashes - and I can tell you that. I had several computers with Intel inside (literally), and they crashed usually every month. This was just running a server environment. I've only had to have two AMD computers - one server and one PC. The server crashed once. The PC crashed whenever I put bullcrap on it (not literally).

So if the L-Bar forecast is gone, does this mean regular locals are returning. TWC needs to make up their :censored: minds on what they are going to do unless they are still "testing" whatever the heck they were testing.

I'll tell you what they were testing... they were testing a loaded baked potato hock-loogie Mariokart Wii cheddar cheese and sour cream beef dog corn  :censored:.

Anyways, who here thinks this system that is passing through FL/GA/AL is really a TD/TS? I know that I do...

I don't, because the invest is lacking in tropical characteristics. Just looks like a tropical low pressure system to me.

Now, I agree, but earlier and last night I really thought I should have been named.

I just hopped into my cPanel. GR3 and Interwarn use a load of bandwidth.
FTP from both were 1.41gB for the total month of October (OCT 1 at 12AM CT to present minute).
FTP from both were 1.64gB for the total month of September (unsure dates, about 15).

My HTTP usage for the main site was only 6.89mB for this total month, with the barebones index. HTTP for last month was 87.69mB.

Total usage for this month has been 1486.79mB and counting.

I wasn't able to get on yesterday or Saturday, but I'd like to wish my mom a happy birthday!

I also needed to make an announcement about my website, for those who often visit.
We're in the middle of a lot of maintenance, with trying to get a new index page up and whatnot. For now, we have a generic index, and it will likely remain that way until I get my new index image finished and get everything ready. The Radar and Alerts pages will not change, along with our independent offices. Our forum is experiencing difficulties loading and producing images on other computers, so we are back on our default theme and in maintenance mode. It seems as if a lot is falling apart, but we're getting it all fixed.

If you'd like to view the radar or alerts, click below. We need error reports.

Anyways, who here thinks this system that is passing through FL/GA/AL is really a TD/TS? I know that I do...

I've received my Kindle! I ordered the basic, generic Kindle ($79 w/ads), and I love it. It has inspired me to read more. I've already improvised a booklight for it, considering it does not have a backlight on it. It states it has about 1 1/4gb of usable memory once you add the dictionary onto it. Charging is fast, on about a half-charge it takes not even thirty minutes to hit full charge.

Despite how the reviews speak on Amazon.com, the newspapers you can buy or subscribe to are good. They aren't the greatest in the world, compared to the real thing, but hey - it at least has pictures and a nav menu.

Books, I find them to be overpriced. Most, if you'll look, are more than the paperback book. Their read quality is dependent on how well the publisher converted the formats. I've come across some doozie samples, but most are good quality. (That is something I need to make clear about Kindle books - DOWNLOAD THE SAMPLE FIRST, and with Kindle newspapers - DON'T IMMEDIATELY SUBSCRIBE, BUY THE CURRENT ISSUE.

Kindle's platform is a modified Java framework; therefore, you should be prepared for a few freeze ups or slow downs, but all-in-all, it is pretty fast.

Whispernet - very fast. If you have the Kindle in a Wi-Fi area (and for the models that have 3G), you'll get it within around 10 to 20 seconds, and that is slow. I get mine immediately.

Finally, I do have to say the unit is really light, somewhat around a regular (small) paperback. It has five controls, the back, keyboard, 5-Way D-Pad, menu, and home buttons. Very easy to use (with the on-screen keyboard being the exception to this). Charging is simple - put the Kindle in screensaver mode and hook it up. To continue reading or browsing while charging, you must "eject" the Kindle from the computer. No, you don't unplug it, you go to the USB controls and eject the "AMAZON KINDLE." You have an option to set a password, but I advise making it simple unless you have all day to enter it on the God-awful on-screen keyboard. If you have .PDF or .DOCX/.DOC files, you can email them to the Kindle - but be sure it is in your "Approved Senders" list on Amazon (your email used for Amazon will work fine, since it will permanently be in the senders list.

Unrelated: Book/Paper Recommendations
So far, I've come across about twenty sample books I didn't care for, or were poorly transferred to the Kindle format. I have a few I like, and I'd like to share.
  • Warrior Soul: The Memoir of a Navy SEAL - by Chuck Pfarrer
  • SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper - by Stephen Templin and Howard E. Wasdin
  • USA Today

003171 in Ozark, AL is not working and has not been for a while. Was working this morning. I know that it was acting a bit, sluggish, this morning.

Addition: might just be the cable company, but our audio and video is continuously going out only on TWC.

I think I-10 through Bonifay/Pensacola/Tallahassee goes at about 70 or 80. It has been about a year since we've been on the istate.

I panicked the first time because...
1. It was my first time
2. I only have driven a go-kart
3. I had to go through a very... small fence
4. The steering wheel was one of those you had to turn a thousand times to go the direction you want
5. DUDE, I WAS DRIVING. I HAVE PASSENGER RAGE.

Next weekend. I'm afraid.
