This is actually really good, although I had to wait thru a little more than a minute and a half of commercials to get to it

It would be an even better almost text-only emulation if the text was centered on the screen & perhaps enlarged &  the images other than the radar was taken out.

Most recent emulation, the Intellistar v3

Intellistar v3.4 Emulator: Bennington VT, 4/16/2012

Downloaded it from AuthorStream, courtesy of TWCjon, who also let me use the blue LDL seen in my later TWC emulators. Unsure who the original author of this emulator is.

Those weather icons actually came from TWC, not number1twcfan.

To clarify, I downloaded them from number1twcfan's Photobucket page, using a link he provided in his Intellistar v2 emulator after doing a Google search for the emulator. I know they were used on TWC's website from 2010 until recently when they changed the icons used on their website. They still use these on the Intellistar.

This would be extremely helpful and such a cool idea if it could work. I did not realize you could somehow put automatically updating NWS info. into an MS Excel spreadsheet.  If this is possible, you're going to have to show us how this is done. Very cool idea.

This website's help tip for Excel (http://www.mrexcel.com/tip103.shtml) provides a good overview of how to do it. It uses getting up-to-the-minute stock quotes as an example. Instructions are pretty basic & easy to follow, and it has tips on how to format the chart, how to set it to automatically refresh the data, etc. I think it's a pretty cool feature.

Now if I could only link the data from the Excel spreadsheet into PowerPoint, it would make creating the emulations far less time consuming....

Something I did about a month ago in OpenOffice.org....a little parody emulation of the Intellistar 2. The weather icons came from TWC & were provided by number1twcfan via a link in his Intellistar v2 (the 1 with thethe current Weatherstar XL background) emulator. I used mostly the plain Arial font here, because I'm not sure which are used in the actual IS2.

General Weather Chat / MS Excel + updated data from NWS website
« on: October 31, 2011, 02:02:15 PM »
So has anyone else here (besides me) tried doing anything like this? Automatically inputting & updating data from the National Weather Service's website into MS Excel (or Open Office.org)? I finally found out how to do this about a week and a half ago, and I actually use OpenOffice.org's spreadsheet to do it. I find it to be a convenient way to update the current conditions in my area without actually going to the NWS or TWC website to get that info that way.

The reason why I was trying to do this was so I could link it to my TWC emulator so I wouldn't have to enter the info into the presentation program manually, like I do now. It would save me a lot of time, because now it takes me up to 3 hours, if not more, to make the TWC emulator videos. It's very time consuming. But I haven't gotten to that point though yet (where I can just link the data from the spreadsheet into the presentation).

Don't really buy music much anymore, since I'm on a shoe-string budget & can't really afford to :( I'm mainly into heavy metal, but maybe someone here would recognize these that I bought at my local Goodwill the last time I picked up any music:

Amon Amarth - Versus the World
Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera
Demons & Wizards - s/t
Nevermore - Enemies of Reality

I'm liking the return of Lily Was Here and Supernova to the playlist. And Fly by 7and5 is good as well, although I don't think I've heard that one on Local on the 8s.

I caught about the last 3 seconds of last night's Trammell Starks outage, but didn't bother posting it on YouTube because it was about a 5 second clip right around 10:54pm EDT, making it pointless to post IMO because it was so brief.
