General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove

Tonight is gonna be a long night. The power went out not once, not twice, but three times so far roday, the last two within the past hour. The winds are frightening to say the least.

Check out the severe weather alert here, I've never seen one pertaining to power outages.

Also check out the wind gust being reported, 43 mph! That's pretty darn impressive for a cold front. Those winds kinda brought a chill to me. I really think the NWS office here needs to issue some High Wind Warnings for part of N. GA If were clocking 40+ mph winds down here I know the mountain areas are clocking no less than 50 mph which should be enough to warrant one or at least bend the rules some to allow for one.

These same conditions happened here on New Year's Eve when the cold front moved through north Texas.  The same "power outage" message appeared on weather.com, and there were some gusts at DFW airport reported at over 50 mph! :o

I, however, do not recall any high wind warnings being issued, so I'm not sure what the criteria is for that.

Don't like cold weather?  Come to Dallas!  Don't like hot weather?  Come to Dallas! :P

2011 brought a year of extremes to the DFW Metroplex.  From an unusually cold winter to a blazing hot summer, the opposite ends of the "weather spectrum" were felt in full force last year.

2011 in Review: Notable Weather Events for the DFW Metroplex
  • January 9: First measurable snowfall for the area
  • February 1 - 4: "COLOSSAL" winter storm, ironically during the week of SuperBowl XLV in Arlington
  • April 18 - 19: Heatwave, bringing the first 90-degree days of the year
  • May 2: Winter returns in mid-spring, setting a record-low maximum of 53°F for the day
  • June 13: First 100° day of 2011
  • SUMMER 2011: The Hottest on Record
  • September 15: Marks the 70th day with triple-digit heat, breaking the old record of 69, set in 1980
  • September 29: Last day of triple-digit heat, leaving the area with a total of 71 for the year

Quiet day today huh? I guess more of us got hungover than I thought.  :P

Yeah, it's usually always quiet on holidays on these forums.  Guess people are either recovering, or out and about.

I don't mean to sound pushy because I understand you two are likely very busy with other things and am also aware of the thief incident that happened earlier this month, but are you all still working on this project?  It would be a shame if not.  Your work so far has been excellent, and I can't wait to see the finished product!

For all of you east of the Rocky Mountains that are wondering if winter is ever going to come, you're going to have your first real Arctic blast to start 2012.  Consider this remark a heads-up as I've already seen the models.

Well so far, I've already felt like winter has been here for weeks.  Especially Christmas weekend, when high temps were in the low- to mid-40s.  I'm loving the upper-60s/low-70s that are in store for us right now! B)

However, we obviously have a couple more months for the "real" arctic blasts (that's any trace of snow or ice with high temps in the 30s here in Texas :P) to come.

Checked out the .com forecast for Tampa, and they must have read our complaints on the new format.. because the major metropolitan areas have the metro maps back :bleh:

That's definetely nice (they've added the metro map back for Dallas as well).  I still wish they would bring a daypart forecast back, though.

I don't think there's ever been a topic about this, and I'd be interested to hear what you all think.  For most of us, it's probably SNOW: several feet!  I personally would prefer sunny skies with snow already on the ground, and a high of around 50 degrees (yes, the snow would begin melting).  On the contrary, my parents actually said sunny and 70 degrees would be the weather that would brighten their Christmas.  So there may be many conflicting opinions out there.  What's yours?

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Sounds like some of you got some pretty nice gifts this year.  I didn't have much of a Christmas list this year, but am happy with what I received: an On-Star and Bluetooth capable rearview mirror for my car, a college hoodie, and of course, some money never hurts. :P

I hope everyone enjoys their holiday season.

It's snowing on the Youtube player now :P

That's eerie.  :)

Wonder why they don't have the feature enabled on all videos.

See guys, I'm not crazy! :P

I didn't like the look of the site then, and I still don't like it now.

OK wow, don't know when this happened, but weather.com has changed its look...again.  The changes are very minor, mainly only with the city search and menu bars at the top.  So far, I don't like it.  The navigation is confusing.

This could be in a beta mode, so if you don't see a difference, it may just be TWC testing something.  I've attached a screenshot below so you all can see what I'm talking about.
Agreed. I've never been a fan of the "hover to get more links" navigation style. What was wrong with the old look? Sheesh, now I wish I had stayed with my 2008 layout. It's really annoying when a site you frequent changes too often!

I have a bad feeling that TWC is going to update weather.com way too often now, to keep with user demands and such.  They didn't update the site for the longest time, probably realize that was a huge mistake, and will now want to update it every year or less. :hmm:
